Neon Genesis Evangelion is essential too, just because it's fucking mental.

also: http://anime-xplosion.com/?bt may be handy for some stuff, their hellsing rips are very nice :)

http://gits.no-jutsu.com/gits/ should be handy too (best source for ghost in the shell), but it appears to be dead :(

Well

Heard nothing but good thing about Ah! My goddess. Try that.

Seen a few early episodes of Naruto (japanese with subs, not the american translation). Seems very good.

Guyver was always a personal favourite of mine, even if it get alot changed from the mangas and is far far shorter than them too.

Tenshi Universe I always found good for a giggle

Lastly Gundam Wing was what got me into animé so that'll always be somethign special to me.

Hope that helps :)

I love manga names. There must be a random generator for them somewhere.

you need the language packs installed.

failing that, just stick them into german or spanish and back to english.

for example.

Laser Pigeon Fanciers to dutch and back comes out as.

The stud Fanciers of the laser

Personally I'm loving all the Hayao Miyazaki stuff these days (Spirited Away, etc) and seen most of his films. I also loved the series of Neon Genesis Evangelion but the film finale was a such a load of bollocks it made me angry. :x

Spriggan is worth checking out. It's not a great film but got some very nice visuals and action sequences in it.

Spirited Away and Princess Monononononononke are both very good.

But personally I have to say that Akira, which most people rave over, bored the tits off me.

Ninja Scroll (the film, not the series) is worth a look

Street Fighter 2 - The Animated Movie is another good one.

You might also want to check out: Black Lagoon, Trinity Blood, Elfin Lied... Bleach is good too. I will agree the movie version of Akira was bad, but the manga was great. Going back to Ghost in the Shell, the 1st movie was eh, but the second movie, Innocence, is my #1 movie for animation. The colors and designs were beautiful. Especially the parade scene, there are colors in there I've never seen before.

http://www.tokyotosho.com/index.php? Is a great site for fansubs, I use it for all my anime fixes. Then again all I watch is anime, even got rid of my TV cause all I watch are fansubs. Nothing like watching a show a day after it airs in Japan complete with subs.

There are many types, depends what you like.

Generally rather good classic ones:
Patlabor, Wings of Honneamise, CyberCity/AD Police/GenoCyber trilogy, Black Magic M66, Bubblegum Crisis, Armitage III, Metropolis, Plastic Little

Ones that have done the rounds on TV, etc:
Tenchi Muyo Ryo Ohki, Mezzo, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Love Hina, Great Teacher Onizuka, Dominion Tank Police, Louie the Rune Soldier, Ah My Goddess

Super Magic Girls:
Project A-Ko, All-Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku, Saber Marionette J, Moldiver, Gunbuster, Magical Girl Pretty Sammy

Girly: (school life, romance, magic fighting dollies)
Azumanga Daioh, Fruits Basket, Angelic Layer, Pretear

Cute Girl, Emotionless Killer:
Gunslinger Girl, Elfen Lied, Noir, Serial Experiments Lain, Kiddy Grade

Cute Girl that is actually a powerful robot masquerading as a maid:
Hand Maid May, Chobits, Mahoromatic, Amzing Nurse Nanako

Boyish: (robots, fighting)
Full Metal Panic, Tokyo Underground, Burn Up W/Excess, Green Green, Hyper Police, Inu Yasha, Kino's Journey, Ninja Scroll, You're Under Arrest

Fantasy: (historic, RPG-style)
Record of Lodoss War, The Herioc Legend of Ar(i)slan, dot Hack, King of Bandit Jing, Magic Shopping Arcade Abenobashi

Comedy, Quirky:
Excel Saga, Furi Kuri (FLCL), Ushio & Tora, KO Century Beast Warriors, Ranma 1/2, Di Gi Charat, Dragon Half, Ground Defense horse Mao-chan, Puni Puni Poemi, Slayers

And anything by Studio Ghibli, they are drawn with a more western style, but are great stories and the worlds created are amazing. Howl's Moving Castle is their best to date, Grave of the Fireflies was the one I've watched most recently, and was very moving.

There's also the horror, super-violent and porno ones, but I've never seen anything of very high quality, except the Ichi the Killer short, which somehow managed to be more violent than the live action version.
