Patch 3.1 preloading

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

So it's probably soon, batten down your addons and brace for impact.

Changelog here

Interesting bits: (ignoring the class stuff)

Dual Spec
Players level 40 and higher will now be able to visit their trainer to pay a one-time fee and access the dual talent specialization feature.

Gathering Skills
* You can no longer fail when Mining, Herbing, and Skinning.

Mining
* Northrend deposits now despawn 1 minute after mining them. This change was made to speed up respawning when nodes were partially looted.

Items
* Three new mounts are available from Horde mount vendors, equalizing the number of purchasable normal and epic mounts: the Black Wolf, the White Kodo, and the Black Skeletal Horse (in Orgrimmar, Bloodhoof Village, and Brill respectively).

All Ground Mounts may now swim without dismounting the rider. Flying Mounts still may NOT, and will dismount the rider upon entering water.

Fishing
* A new (and very rare) special mount can now be caught from Northrend fishing pools.
* A new clam, the Giant Darkwater Clam, can be obtained by fishing in Wintergrasp. This mighty clam has a greatly increased chance to drop pearls, and yields up to five times the regular amount of clam meat.
* New fishing dailies are now offered from Marcia Chase in Dalaran City!

Cooking
* A new recipe has been added to cooking trainers for making Black Jelly, using several Borean Man 'O War as ingredients. While it looks disgusting, it restores more health and mana than the highest level food.
* Flint and Tinder is no longer necessary for creating a campfire. You're just that resourceful!
* Ingredients such as Spices, Apples, and the like have been removed from most cooking recipes.

Quests
* Horde characters may now obtain the quest CLUCK! from Chickens. While Farmer Saldean won't be selling Special Chicken Feed to the Horde, perhaps "Westfall" William Saldean in Brill might...

UI
A new Equipment Manager feature has been added. This feature can be turned on from the Interface Options, and will enable managing up to ten separate sets of equipped items.

For me, the Shaman Stormstrike ability (one of the three main attacks I use) now has a 50/100% chance of restoring 20% base mana. This is good - currently the only way I have of restoring mana in combat (aside from potions) is with Water Shield, but that requires something to hit me. In an instance where someone is tanking I'm not getting hit, and so I don't regen mana. Now I can do it as I attack, which is far better for a DPS class.

That's not altogether unsurprising, considering how much wailing there was over them.

 Pallys are basically cheating anyway :P

I'm not quite sure what they've done to DKs, I think they basically fettle them randomly every patch.

Were people whining about Warlocks?!?!

Curse of Recklessness has been removed.
Curse of Weakness: Now also reduces the armor of the target by 5%.
Drain Soul: Each time Drain Soul deals damage to a target which can grant experience, it now has a chance to generate a Soul Shard.

Soul Shard: This item now has a maximum count of 32 in inventory. This one really bums me out, because when I'm solo'ing a dungeon, I fill all but my food/drink bag with these for use in the dungeon, because usually I'm unable to make any in the dungeons that I'm able to solo!
Voidwalker: The health bonus on this pet has been reduced from 60% to 10%.
Talents
Affliction

Siphon Life: The Siphon Life spell has been removed. Siphon Life now causes your Corruption spell to instantly heal you for 40% of the damage done. In addition, the damage done by your Corruption, Seed of Corruption and Unstable Affliction damage-over-time effects is increased by 5%. I just realized that this is a GOOD thing, turning a DOT into a healing spell too.
.
Demonology
Demonic Empathy has been removed.
Demonic Empowerment: This talent now has a unique spell effect. I hope this is a GOOD thing...
Demonic Sacrifice: This talent has been removed. Was quite handy when a demon was beyond saving, granting you a shield while you summon it's replacement.
Fel Synergy has been moved to tier-1. No longer increases intellect, stamina and damage of your summoned demon. Improved Enslave Demon talent removed.
Mana Feed: This talent is now a 1-point talent, down from 3 points. Now is the 21-point talent in Demonology, granting 100% mana return to your pet, up from 33/66/100%.
Master Conjuror: Increased from 15/30% up to 150/300%.
Destruction
Not sure what to think of these changes yet...

All in all, I think a bad day for the way I've been using my warlock. Looks like I'll have to retool a bit, but probably a free re-spec anyway with all the tinkering they've done....

That would be more awesome than any mount which has ever gone before. Keep your mechanohogs.

Also, I'd agree with Dres on the surface, reading that. Looks like 'locks have had the shit nerfed out of them. I didn't think they were all that powerful, although it wouldn't surprise me if people had been complaining about them because wowtards complain about everything. Maybe they didn't think Death Knights outstripped every other class by enough, so they're slowly nerfing everyone else too.

This was a good one to stop the mobs that always flee running away into a group of their mates. I'll miss it.

You're thinking of the Voidwalker's Sacrifice spell, Demonic Sacrifice was the general one that worked on all demons and granted different buffs. It'll be sorely missed by non-demonology Warlocks who used it to boost themselves, only resummoning/resacrificing a demon when the effect wore off.

Dk, unholy wrote: * Bone Shield: Cooldown decreased to 2 minutes from 1 minute.
* Master of Ghouls: Now also reduces the cooldown on Raise Dead by 60 seconds.
* Night of the Dead: Redesigned to grant a flat reduction on cooldown to Raise Dead and Army of the Dead instead of a reduction from using abilities.
Lower cooldowns are always welcome. Never used Night of the Dead, but might now.
also wrote:Pestilence does no damage and has only 1 rank.
* Shadow of Death: This talent has been removed.
* Unholy Blight and Gargoyle have swapped places in the Unholy tree. Gargoyle is the new 51-point Unholy talent.
The last one is odd, but shouldn't matter to most as you probably have both by the time yiou hit Outland.
 about Shadow of Death - that was the one that let you be a ghoul when you died, and Pestilence was one of the few AoE spells we had.

Wha? Why stop Pestilence from doing damage? It was hardly is a big hitter in damage terms, but it was always handy for chipping at additional enemies when you were focusing on someone else.

Yup, I suppose it's to make it less useful if they're not diseased.

I'll miss Shadow of Death, but the changes to the collection profs are most welcome.

Shadow of Death seemed a bit unreliable anyway - it think it has a cooldown. I died a few times in a row trying to do some elite bosses and it only worked on the first one.

I imagine that's because they've removed the dungeon HS exploit.
