phpbb solution required

Post by proalan »

A mate of mine has set up a phpbb version (2.0.19)

- latest php build
- latest mysql database used
- html enabled in forum

he currently has a problem displaying a particular username properly after registration. The username registered is...

<<Black>>

yet after registration the profile and posts display the username incorrectly as...

<<Black>&g

I would be most grateful if anyone could remind me what the solution or work around is to this problem.

Can he log in with the correct username or does he have to use the wrong one?

That's two versions on phpbb out-of-date, by the way, so it may have been fixed already.

Check the database to see what the character limit on the username is (an arrow is four characters: < and >).

That was it, its the character limit on the database, DOH

btw the name encapsulated by the double angle brackets is supposed to be

<<Black--Halo>>

but i forgot to disable html in the last post so it didn't show properly, as you can see this is a very long name.

Its such a crime forgetting a solution that one has solved before. :shakefist:

Cheers mate
