Shadowrun team split

Post by Joose »

So there's been a fair bit of interest in playing Shadowrun. If everyone who says they want to and has made/is making a character joins the next run, there will be 8 players. The ideal size for a team is 4-5, 6 really being an upper limit, normally.

Now, I don't want anyone who wants to play not playing, so the choice is this:

1) We have a much larger than normal team
2) We have two runs going on, with two team, simultaneously.

Personally, I have no real preference here. Ive been thinking about it a while, and I keep coming up with reasons to do both.

On the one hand, one big team keeps everyone together, which is nice, and means I only have to handle one storyline and one thread. However, you saw how long combat took with 4 players, imagine doubling that. Also, more players means more chances that you have to wait for someone before you can proceed.

On the other hand, two small teams means there are less chances for delays, and the individual threads may be easier to manage. But it also means you guys are not all working together, and I have to come up with more stuff. The second part of that may not be a problem, though, as I have got my hands on a whole pre-written storyline with enough missions in to keep us going for *ages*.

Really, I can't see a clear winner either way. So I'm opening it up to you guys. You are the ones playing, which way do you want to go?

Note: If we were to split the team, I would manage it to make sure that we didn't end up with all the mages in one team and all the techs in the other, or all the nerds in one team and all the combat bunnies in the other. Don't worry about that.

Personally I'd like to see how a big group works. It can't be any slower than Joose already makes it :P

Group hug!
When I'm not SR'ing I'll be SLA'ing anyway.
Maybe next SLA BPN there'll be lots of interest in that too.

Note to self; pay next BPN by squad.

I'd say see who turns up, first. Perhaps have some way of autopiloting people if they aren't around and hold stuff up for ages, or have a designated second to cover for them, or perhaps just portray them as frozen in place as if paralysed by fear.

Yes I say let's see how well it goes with more people before splitting the groups up.

Moar peepholes! Would be interesting to see a super sized shadowrun squad smoothly, sanguinely and sausages.

As long as Jooses doesn't crack under the pressure that is.

I hope there's a troll in the squad - we need someone big and strong who can carry Leland on his back whilst still being able to have both hands free.

I would like to see how a big run goes. No doubt to give everyone their fair go it'll take about a year and a half but that's okay.

Can we have some sniping action please joose? I want to see how good my lying on a roof ready to make the red mist skills are. :)

The next run im putting the final touches on (and tweaking a little to cope with all the peoples) could go any number of ways, and may indeed give you opportunity to snipe.

Its looking pretty clear that people are wanting to at least give the large-huge team a go, so lets do that!

If we need to split after this run then like I said to joose a while ago I would quite happily gm a run. I'm not as au fait with the rules as joose, so maybe theshuttingdowns might like to run one once he's got 4th edition changes sorted in his brain.

I've got ideas for a story and I'd certainly reply faster than joose would! I know there's no great hurry because the next run will undoubtedly take an age but I thought I'd let everyone know I'm already working on the run, it'll be more cinematic in a way than joose's, because my beard makes me role play a lot, but I think you'll like it.

Right Joose and I have figured the split like this to try and balance as best we can given the constraints.

Joose runs -

Frank (Me)
Chopper (Roman)
Nikolai (Grimmie)
N-zo (The Shutting Downs)
Leland (Deject)
Al (possibly) (Dog Pants)
"?" (Anham)

I run -

Jon (Fabyak)
Jasper (Dog Pants)
Firenza (Roman)
Kieran (Joose)
Alvrin (Deject)

Joose has a story arc to run through as do I.

After that it'll probably be mixed up/have new players/new characters and to get more balance. We'll decide this time next year or so. :P

Also, there's still plenty of time for anyone thinking of joining. Both groups are quite combat and spell heavy, there's plenty of room for hackers, drone pilots, faces, covert ops, bounty hunters, gum-shoes, smugglers, long range weapons support, transport and technomancers (using magic on computers).

Of course more samurai and gun bunnies are good too. :likesitall:

I haven't played shadowrun in forever, but being on the other side of the pond I wouldn't want to hold things up for you all so I'll continue reading. Between this and paranoia I'm set for storytime.
