If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

AVG fuckup warning

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

An update for the AVG virus scanner released yesterday contained an incorrect virus signature, which led it to think user32.dll contained the Trojan Horses PSW.Banker4.APSA or Generic9TBN. AVG then recommended deleting this file; this causes the affected systems to either stop booting or go into a continuous reboot cycle.

If you're still using AVG, well :disappointedheadshake:

Not even Myth 2, which would completely erase your hard drive if you installed it to the root folder?

That (ISTR) never actually made it into the wild, Eve's did and caused damage.

You might be right. I think there was another one like it but I don't even remember the name of it.

Ahem. Well, if someone were still using AVG, what would you recommend moving on to instead? Is there any good free anti-virus stuff about?

I don't like paying for a lot of utility software, but anti-virus is something I'll shell out for every time because it can be so critical. I've not had a single problem with NOD32 (although apparently it can have issues with some Steam games), and it was hardly expensive at something like £50 for three years.

Yeah aside from the occasional false positive on Steam games (easily solvable with an exclusion on my Steam folder) I have been 100% satisfied with NOD32.

I installed AVG on my parents spare machine at the weekend, NOD32 is on the main one, and I've come to the conclusion that it is shit and annoying these days.
