Wrath of the Lich King zombie plague covering Azeroth

Though the gaming industry fat cats have yet to seriously address our demands for a zombie-themed MMO (do we need to throw another demand-wrapped brick through the front window?) tonight's event in World of Warcraft has given us something close. You see, Arthas - the titular Lich King - is sort of a jerk and, as such, he's planted a bunch of "Conspicuous Crates" around the land of Azeroth. Open one: You're a zombie! Touch another zombie? Bam! You're a zombie.

If this plague sounds familiar, we'd direct you towards this post from 2005 (lo those many years ago) detailing an unintentional plague that spread through Azeroth (and the servers that power it). Blizzard has, in short, taken that "Blood Plague" and harnessed it as a world event, similar to the Scourge invasion that preceded the release of The Burning Crusade. Unsurprisingly, WoW Insider has all the details, reporting, "The threat is growing -- we're getting word of huge zombie raids forming outside the capital cities ..."

Shhh. You had us at "huge zombie raids."

That's awesome. I hope it lasts for a few days (at least the weekend) 'cos I'm not going to have chance to play until tomorrow night.

Mini zombie diary here http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.htm ... 2736&sid=1

Reminds me of the Warcraft 3 (was it? I think so) mission where you drop infected grain in a village and turn everyone into the undead.

Don't know if it was meant to be there or it was left over from an earlier outbreak, but I just contracted zombie plague from an infecetd cockroach outside the Lexicon building in Ogrimmar. I'm now hiding upstairs until I turn so I jump down and munch on the brains of all the people hanging about down there fiddling with their new inscriptions :brains:

EDIT: Nope, the roach respawns. We've an opening for a zombie horde in Dogrimmer chaps. I've already infected everyone in the Lexicon room with a corpse explosion.

Shit's happening now as the Lich King approaches;

Argent Dawn healers have fucked off
Zombie Plague only takes 2 mins now
Plague is passed on after being hit by a zombie
Scourge Necropolises are appearing (I found one in Winterspring)

Unfortunately Thrall is immune to zombie plague. :(
I did manage to infect his guards though and that lead to a short-lived outbreak in the hall.

There's some serious QQ going on at the official forums. I went looking for some more info and people are getting really upset because it's disrupting their game.

The zombies can get fucking annoying if they've killed the banker or flight master or something, but they respawn pretty quickly. These people need to get a grip, it's a week long event that adds a bit of variety and they act like it's ruining their lives.

I learnt it only recently and just had to use it. :)
I especially like:

"Less QQ more Pew Pew"
(Quit crying and fight)

I did a zombie explosion in the UC bank, but one of them is a ghost so it wasn't too bad. There was one banker left to deal with.

I can't describe how much I hate "pew pew". Not sure why, it just seems all the wrong sort of childish.

I found a site you'll like then: http://www.qqpewpew.com/
It does have two zombie songs in the latest post though.

I just had to buy Jonathan Coulton's - Re Your Brains track after that.

The zombie plague is getting serious now (They're a pain in Shatt). Infection to zombification should now be down to 1 minute and they're tougher. More stuff here: http://www.wowwiki.com/Zombie_Infestation

I must say the plague is just getting on my tits now.

It was fun for a while, but when doing admin stuff in cities, it's just shite, especially now it's near instant and there's no NPC cures.

There are still a few Argent Dawn healers about. Flight point at Dogrimmer, and the inn at Shat are two I've encountered.
