Have we lost something?

Post by Hehulk »

Just to get a general concensus about life in eve recently. With us going all balls out over the last two weeks to get this complex reaction set-up and a bit of time before that, have we managed to lose the essence of what 5punkorp is suppose to be about?

Time was we all loged on just to see what was going on, but these days it's so easily predictable as POS this, POS that and I can't help but feel that while the isk is nice, is it slowly becoming more about the work than the fun.

Prove me wrong but I've noticed old hands sliping away, old corp traditions dying out and the little guy getting ignored in favour of political standing. People like Dog Pants who at one point was one of the most active people in the corp, hardly ever drops in to say hi these days. Some of the guys who are currently living in w9- and can't really rat solo yet, even with BCs because we've (Or possibly just me) not told them how to equip and use said ships for those conditions.

narf, I just miss the impromtu mining ops where 2 of us would start and we'd end up with 10 guys mining, hauling and running rat cover

Tell me I'm wrong and it's all in my head, please.

EDIT: So, to at least make myself calm down, I'm gona go sit in khank all day with Hehulk and Silver killing some belts :) Anyone is welcome to come join me.

Actually I agree. However, it's only been for the last two weeks or so while we've been concentrating on getting these POS's up. If you recall, before that we'd done several corp ops, running the DS in I-8 and not to mention the stupendous effort everyone put in to raise isk for the POS chain.

Funnily enough it's not the first time things have gone quiet during a major project. I don't begrudge anyone who finds this aspect a bit dull and wants to avoid me bleating about hauling everytimet they log in ;)

It's also sunny outside.

That's all you had to say. I shall take some hayfever tablets and go lounge about in the garden for a bit later :boogie:

Also, Those mining ops in w9- were kinda pre-planed. I'm talking about the spontaneous shit we use to pull that built two or three battleships in a night.

Thanks Hulk, for worrying about the corp!

While I agree that, yes, everyone might be burning out just a bit over all the POS work that has gone on, I don't think it was OVERLY pressured upon anyone. While many realized it was a huge undertaking and did what they could to help, I think the work largely fell upon those that wanted to and coudl help.

Will we all benefit from freighter loads of isk coming our way? Yes.
Will we all benefit from having more time to play because isk won't be as much of a problem? Probably yes!

Friz hit on something else too, the sunniness of the season. I've forseen for weeks that my time will dwindle over the summer months, hence my plans to finish the advanced learnings during this time. I regret I won't be on as much as I like to help the corp haul, but I'll do what I can when I can, just as everyone else has, to get the corp where it is.

But a vacation is in order, no doubt! How about a semi-annual mining event, just to see what record we can set to break at the next one? Sound unofficial yet planned enough? :)

narf, any kind of organized event, usually doesn't pull in major numbers. It's just a right time right place kinda thing that we've not had in a while because at any given time half the corp is in 0.0 and half is in empire.

I don't think 5punkorp has lost its essence, it's just evolved. The nature of Eve means you have to strive for bigger things or else there's not that much point playing. You can see the spirit of 5punkorp in the huge crudely drawn cock that's now left disembodied in space, in the fact we all bum each other as a form of greeting (that had one American former member shocked: "So, you all essentially fuck each other in the ass for a greeting?"). The 5punkorp of old, when I started playing, needed a purpose. We tried to organise events to get us all together but in true 5punk style we all just bomb-bursted and nothing much came of it.
I was pretty sceptical about the POS when it was first planned. I didn't think we could pull it off, but Fea, Hehulk, and Friz said we could and I trusted them so I went with it. I'm glad to say that not only was I proved wrong, I was proved spectacularly wrong. I'm amazed at how the corp's pulled all this together and become an integral part of one of the biggest alliances in Eve in less than 6 months.

Well said Dog Pants. I think we've just grown up a bit as a corp. Maybe we don't do spontaneous mining ops anymore, but that's largely because we have little reason too - how many of use need a bs built? Next time someone wants one, the mining ops will happen I'm sure. And on that note, anyone need anything built?

How about a small POS for Fw4ppers? Something in Jaymass to teach the new players about the dangers, and benefits of 0.0 without the risks associated with getting there. With all the Hemorphite there we could do some good mining opps there as well, not to mention TONS of pure Jaspet. And only one other corp, (another training corp even) that works the system. Might even be new allies for us.

Just the thoughts of the rambling minded Dres. Doomed to always think of new things that might work, but need those practical types around to help determine feasibility on.

^LONG-TERM GOAL^
Not something I'm ready to start with current group at all. But there is a miner in training that wants a more dangerous place to mine, it has good rats and access to other .2 systems, good loot, which is a pain to fly to Hoth to fit, and the ore I want to mine solo, but don't want to SS a hauler in empty space for.

I have made nice with the locals though, and could piggy-back on their opps, (and have helped on a couple occasions with rat support) so the foundation is in place for bigger things there if we want. Again, if WE want. Worse case scenario, I might someday set up a personal POS there for fun and to say I did it.

Enough ranting... gotta draw a salon :(

well...being "new" to 5punk...as far as i've read and heard from you guys...the "5punk Way" is to have fun with minimal rules while progressing and making isk...which the fun part is a bit off to the side while the making isk is thru the roof!!

So, for me anyways, I dont mind the "work" as its also a learning experience and the rewards should make the fun....more fun eventually. Win-Win as I see it!

Just dont run out of beer...and :caek:
