Like the buttons, much more in keeping with the rest of the site than the old grey bar thing.
The xfire one looks slightly....funny. Around the edges.
And im not sure about the layout of them. Having some of them centered and some up to the top left, looks kinda messy. Saying that, im not sure that grouping them all together would work better either, it would be a hell of a lot of buttons in one place.
I just typed "hell of a lot of Numbers". I need to watch less Lost.

I can see that the top buttons are the ones from the main page and the ones on the bar are the forum ones but it looks a bit weird, maybe if the top ones were a different shape or bigger it would balance it out, as it is with them all the same it's a bit confusing on the eye, either that or leave them on the front page

Thanks for your comments, I was about to type something, but then got disctracted at work.
Dog Pants made the icons, and I fiddled with the template/php.
The reason the Xfire one looks naff is because I made it, as we were going to have a bigger Arcade, 5cheduler & Xfire buttons than the rest of them to make them stand out, but I decided against it as it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the style.
Because of this I made the icon so we could atleast navigate to the Xfire List until Dog Pants can make a better one for me.
I originally planned to have all the buttons together but decided it might look too cluttered, so thought against it.
It really is quite a hard thing to balance and keep everybody happy, so please, please make any suggestions you liek on this, they are all appreciated.
As for the 1px white line, I'm not sure why it's happening, but it's been noted, and I'll try to fix it.
So then, how else would you arrange the buttons, because I've tried everything, and this seemed the only way of making the website one's seperate to the forum ones???
Hopefully overall you can see what I'm trying to accomplish, especially if you take a step back and look at it with a n00b's eyes, as there are lots of areas of 5punk that get lost because nobody uses the website.
This afternoon I will upload the new website design, which basically ties in with the forum, so it will appear pretty seamless.
Other question, should the Arcade, Discussion Board become an icon, and not a forum link, or would this be a pain because currently it lets you know if a post has been made in the discussion board.
My worry with making the Arcade button instead of the forum link is that new people won't see it, which is why I was going for bigger buttons, but then decided against that due to styling etc...

I think definitely keep the discussion board as a forum link, I think it's great where it is, the different icon makes it quite clear what it is, same for arcade also then I guess, the only thing with the arcade is that it is quite a different 'thing' whereas the Disco board is just a different type of post/forum/board thingyWoo Elephant Yeah wrote:Other question, should the Arcade, Discussion Board become an icon, and not a forum link, or would this be a pain because currently it lets you know if a post has been made in the discussion board.

If you want to make the Arcade a more seperate/obvious thing for 5punk then I say link to it from the front page and make it an icon, but that might increase the 'Arcade only' folk that people seem to be quite scared of, if you want it to just be a side aspect of 5punk then leave it as it is.
As for the Main page buttons how about having them in 2 rows with slightly bigger icons so that 4 icons high fills the height of the top bar.

This looks like a very good idea, and I might try it out nowmrbobbins wrote:Code: Select all

Sorry, I wasn't really paying attention the the banner discussion. Is there a new one coming back? I thought it rocked and when I joined 5punk (I'm young enough to still remember that, yes) it was the first thing that caught my eye and I thought:
But, where's all the rum gone?
On the web site bit, I dunno if I'm the only one, but I usually skip it and come straight to the forum now. Maybe something to attract people back to it as it were, like picture of the day (from a screeny of one of the games we've been playing), or some snazzy links to the game or fansites, or mayhaps a banner linked into the X-Fire most dedicated gamer profile - or would that expose too much those of us without a life?"Cool! More game playing nutters like me....where have you been all my life? Actually, don't answer that, I don't want to destroy my innocense."
But, where's all the rum gone?

Perhaps a longer banner of the games we play all tattyshopped and blended across the top, and then all the small buttons in a line where the old ones were? You should use small darker-blue 1 or 2 pixel vertical seperators to seperate forum and mainsite buttons, or just change the design of the buttons to differate them?

Point taken, it's probably best to get rid of the b3ta gamers bit on the logo, because allthough this is mainly made up of b3tans', it's open to everyone, so it probably doesn't need to be in the logo anymore.
I tried Bobbins idea out, but for some reason it just didn't look right.
How about having all the forum buttons on the left of the bottom bar, and all the website ones on the right?
Urrrgggghhhh why must something so simple become so infuriatingly difficult?
That way we could still have a banner in the top right (but a more updated nicer looking one) and have all the buttons together, but still seperated if you see what I mean?
