Before we start, yes I know they're only mini-games and that people think it barely constitutes PvP. Just to get that out of the way.
I had a go at the Warsong Gulch battleground last night, and I have to admit it was rather refreshing. I got my arse handed to me three games in a row, but I got some honour and Mr Tufty badges (no idea what either do) and it was quite entertaining.
Anyone else had a go? I know S2B has because he recommended it to me. Anyone else interested in a 5punky PvP outing?

WoW pvp makes me feel sick, and if I wear pvp gear with resilience on it I explode sponteaneously. This has been proven on several occasions, and it has nothing to do with my ability or otherwise at pvp.
There are basically 2 different games: battlegrounds like Warsong Glitch are capture the flag, or Anti Virus (Alterac Valley) which are big fail fests that involved lots of running around, capturing towers and ultimately killing the other side's king NPC - they have the potential to be lots of fun but equally just be a mad rush to kill said npc.
Anyway, the upshot of all this is HONOR and those funny little fluffy dice tags, which between them constitute yet another form of currency which you can turn in for more gear that ostensibly gives you an edge in pvp. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam quad erat demonstrandum sicut serpentes sicut columbae adsum iam forte et tu brute et cetera.

I've had a couple of goes in Arathi Basin CTF battlegrounds thing and like you say; it's quite refreshing. The rewards are insignificant (like friz said) but it makes a changes and is good practice for PvP elsewhere, if you want to do it "in the field".
I've just re-subscribed due to weak will power and will be re-specing my priest to holy and concentrating on grouping, so I'd be interested.

I think it was Shot2Bits who put me on to daily PvP quests in Battlegrounds - http://www.wowwiki.com/Daily_quest#Battleground_Quests
It's earned me just over 7000XP each time at L50-ish. Worth looking at, but you have to be on the winning side.

Like meRoman Totale wrote:I did one of the CTF things a while back (possibly Warsong but not too sure). It was quite fun and something different, but as pointed out earlier it tends to be populated by those slightly creepy types who know the mechanics of the game far too well.
On one side I loved the idea of PvP in WoW, its incredibly well made and given two equal sides can create a game of epic proportions. However! 9 times out of 10 the game isn't and ends up being an absolute massacre. The fact is, with that many armour sets/skill levels it's nearly impossible to balance out and I usually end up raged at the inadequacies of my own team! /wow geek

Been playing a couple of Battleground matches and while they are quite fun, I can't imagine myself grinding them too much to get the highest items.
There's not a lot for low-level characters, but there are a couple of items which have quite siginificant bonuses and aren't too hard to get.
Done Arathi Basin which is a small point capture map, which Horde have won every time I've tried it and Warsong Gulch which actually seems to be RvR but I didn't know what we were supposed to be doing.
I came almost bottom all the times we lost, but the one time we won I was quite near the top despite being the lowest level playing (50 in a 50-59 battle).
No-one ever seems to heal you and rogues are constanly sneaking around in packs and raping the graveyards, the little bastards, but it's 1 badger for losing, 3 for winning and the items start at 10 badgers.

Well I have kicked the arse out of PvP. My main is Knight Champion from the old honour system and I am sat on 36,000 Kills. I have gone through a few PvP armour sets as they keep upgrading the bloody things.
The BG's do go round in cycles. Horde win then Alliance win it's based on when there is a higher number of BG newbies flooding the system. They eventualy get better and the other side starts losing rinse and repeat. Sometimes both sides come good at the same time then you get some epic battles which are quite entertaining. Not as epic as they used to be I have spent as long as 6 hours in Alterac Valley (on the old system). I am on Bronze Dragonflight and when there is a change to the system the old boys dust off thier PvP gear and jump in for a week or two in which the Horde get PWND badly. Then they have all the new gear and leave then Alliance get PWND BADLY! I PvP with my Paly and Mage.
Its best to PvP at night after about 9pm when all the kids are in bed.
With the release of The Wrathfull Bitch King they are going to delete all honour marks and remove all honour points including Arena points so people can't save up for spanky new uber gear and have it the day of release. They would not want anyone having an advantage. Of course having 1 billion gold is not an advantage in Blizzs eyes.....

Sometimes I think it would be in everyone's interest if a faction was picked at random 50% of the time at the game start and they just sit down at their start point and wait to be killed.
Both sides would get the cookies far quicker that way, and you could be AFK half the time without getting reported. Playing the same damn maps over and over to get the thousands of honour required for the goodies can't be fun forever.
