Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Well lets see im a big fan of FPS infact most of the games i own are FPS so trust me when i say this games is shit!
Its shit now, it was shit last week and it was shit in development!!!!!
I installed it, played it for 5 minutes and guess what its uninstalling now.
Hmmm evidence of its crappness i hear you asking for well here goes.
1. The controls are slow to react, clunky, confusing and badly planned on the keyboard. As an example ouch i am being shot i think i will duck my head behind this wall, Presses 'c' to crouch......dum de dum.........whistles........knits a jumper.......crouch. Frickin wonderfull shame im dead.
2. Im running a pretty good gaming rig hell its probably the fastest on my RAF camp so why the fuck do the graphics look worse than F.E.A.R. or COD2 or Beef. There grainy and horrid, the detail is rubbish the particles are fucking massive. The HDR effects are terrible the sky looks pale and shit (even tho the game is set in Mexico City in the summer).
3. The 'advanced AI', advanced my ass. When they do follow you and dont get stuck against walls they wont even stop to shoot at the 'L33T Haxxor aimbot using bots' they simpy stand there and get pinged in the head till they die.
There you are 3 massive problems with the game which were apparent in 5 minutes of play......no im sorry 4 problems THE GAME WILL NOT RUN IF YOU HAVE DAEMON TOOLS INSTALLED.
Now i apologise for not following the Review Rules but im extremely pissed off at having wasted 30 quid on a terrible shitty waste of hard drive space, 5 minutes of my life and beer money.
Good day and goodnight.
Advanced Warfighter 3/10
EDIT
After reinstalling the game and having now played it for a few hours i can honestly say that its pants. You need the patience of a saint to play this game properly and i just cant. Ive tried all the different approaches to things e.g. man 1 you go there, man 2 you cover man 1 and man 3 cover me and it doesnt work. I found my self continually babysitting the decidely thick as mince computer controlled npcs. And when the shit does hit the fan your fucked theres no two ways about it, if someone opens fire on you your dead thats the only option, theres no roll button so you cant quickly get behind a wall there is however a 'slide on your big american ass button' but funnily enough it doesnt work if you aint moving.
The only plus side and enjoyment i found was when you do inevitably get killed 2 or 3 times its fun but only because you know where the enemy is and how he will react. Then and only at this point does the game become fluid and interesting.
If the game had the controls of beef it would be fantastic but sadly it doesnt, for the realism freaks amongst us dont take it as read as its not realistic at all. However if you like a thinking mans first person shooter than yes get it and enjoy it but be sure to bring plenty of prozac to chill out when it goes frustratingly wrong.

This opinion may not reflect the views of the management
Thats not a review, it's a biast rant, it's not balanced in the slightest.
Now allow me to tip the scales a bit. The AI is crap, yes, but it's manageable as long as you remember that they don't move from incoming fire without your orders.
As for the movement being slow and klunky, it's pretty acurate to the speed a real soldier moves, one of the factors you've got to think about here is the weight of all that gear. Besides if this is getting you killed, it's really not the games fault you should never be in full view of the enemy where you can help it.
As for the bots having great aim, thats just complete bs, when i'm peeking out from a corner i get hit by very few bullets.
Ofcourse this game has faults, but these aren't faults, apart from the AI issues these are just some things that some people don't like, but others, including myself think that these are the very things that encourage careful thinking and close team play. I can't really vouch for the single player, but multiplayer co-op is the best fun i've had in an fps for ages

Ive got to second Sandwiches reply here. Admittedly, ive only played the demo, but that is enough to see that pretty much all of the "review" aint quite right.
The AI isnt that advanced, but then, its no worse than any other tactical FPS squadmates out there. The whole point of the game is that you are supposed to be telling them what to do. Even saying that, i played through the demo level without having to babysit them enough to spoil the game.
The movement...Im not entirely sure what your talking about. The controls are not sluggish to react at all, and the crouching delay is just reflecting the actual time it takes to go from standing to crouched. It takes all of a second in game. Yes, its not instant, but tell me this: If you get all kitted up in clothing and equipment like the in game characters are, then carry an assult rifle of some kind, can you go from standing to crouching in less than a second without falling over? Doubt it.
As for the graphics issue: My computer is a piece of shit, by todays standards. It'll *run* most games, but nothing new gets above medium quality settings. Not only does GRAW look good, it plays smoothly too. I suspect, if it looks shite on a decent rig, that theres some settings there somewhere that have been insufficiently twiddled.
For people who liked the original GR, or indeed for anyone who likes a fairly slow paced, decent tactical shooter, I cant see any reason not to like it.
Course, this is just based off the demo. Not got around to "aquiring" the full version yet.

It could be argued that a biased review is better than no review and with the additional comments from others it's kind of balanced out anyway, making a different kind of review with multiple opinions. This could still be useful.
On the other hand, I don't think 5 minutes play is enough to properly gauge the quality of a game M4niachicken.

trust me with GRAW it is, however i still have my copy and im willing to give it another go thanks to the points raised by Joose.spoodie wrote:It could be argued that a biased review is better than no review and with the additional comments from others it's kind of balanced out anyway, making a different kind of review with multiple opinions. However with the graphics set to stupid very high on my:
GeForce 7800GTX
3GB Ram
AMD 64 SKT 939 3500+
it looks terrible, and yes all drivers are updated.

The graphics on mine don't look great but i think the game wrongly identified my graphics card as alot less powerful than it is. That said, 128mb graphics is minimum spec for this. Give the online game a go and you'll find are far more enjoyable game, but watch out for stupid squad leaders that like to get themselves killed ruining the game for everyone
Re: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
is lies i tell thee, having now played it for longer than 5 minutes and with a bit more patience it's beginning to grow on me. Imagine a squad based FPS splinter cell in mexico. Played patiently it is really very good.M4niachicken wrote:Well lets see im a big fan of FPS infact most of the games i own are FPS so trust me when i say this games is shit!

OK, Im sure ive said this before, as it is a personal pet hate of mine, but here we go:M4niachicken wrote: EDIT

I dont like this game != This game is utter shite.
I realise that sometimes its hard to tell whether you dont like it because its just not your kind of game, or you dont like it because its rubbish, but people really have to consider this more if they are going to write reviews. The above really reads like someone who has played a game, its not to thier taste, and is therefore ranting and raving about how shit it is.
Now, im not saying that that is definately whats happened here. It just seems like that when you read it. It could be that the game is, indeed, rubbish. But the way you write that makes it sound like you cant get on with the controls (which I have no problem with) dont like its more careful than normal pace (which I have no problem with) and are from that yelling "OMGWTFTEHSUXORS".
Im also not saying that you shouldnt write reviews either. And im not saying that you shouldnt say that you dont like it, if thats the case. Just saying that more consideration should be made as to whether its just not your kind of game; and if thats the case, make sure you say it.
I know you have kind of attempted that in your last paragraph, but even then, the way you have worded it makes it sound like "You might enjoy it, if your a fucking wierdo".
Dont take this the wrong way, Its supposed to be along the lines of onstuctive critisism

hmmm
I have been a big fan of most of the Tom Clancy franchise, having played, and bought (shock horror) nearly all of the Rogue Spear games and add-ons. I have played the demo and my first thoughts were "Yes, this could be a good game if I put the time and effort into it". These games are not meant to be the normal FPS type shoot fest, but require a lot of strategic thinking and planning to complete a mission, and yes that does mean dying a lot of times to get the plan right, but it feels damn good when you complete a particularly hard level.
Saying that, after reading the reviews and comments from the people who have bought the game here, i am now in 2 minds as to whether or not to get it now...
If anyone who bought it wants to "lend" me it for a few days i will try and write a more balanced review.
