Operation Bubba
Phase 1: Plausibility
This phase sets the scene and will hopefully gather interest and put players in the right mindset to believe the staged events to be set up in phase 2.
1.1 Preparation:
Collect 12x Criminal DNA.
Find some popular forums.
Allocate tasks to agents (involved players).
Agent 1 – Member of EVE forums and 5punkorp.
Agent 2 – Any non-5punkorp player.
1.2 Set up screenshot as evidence:
Screenshot must be taken by an agent (agent 1) who is not a member of 5punkorp and has posted on other EVE forums before.
Opacity for the windows in the Neocom must be at maximum to aid photoshopping.
Agent 1 must open a regular DNA Sample information window from the market then go out into the first stage of the Deadspace Complex at Orduin.
Destroy all rats there and place 12x Criminal DNA into a can near the Bio-gardens. Take a screenshot and email it to me.
1.3 Doctor screenshot:
Alter name of Sample DNA information window to Experimental DNA.
Alter name of can to Z-0m813 (batch failed).
1.4 The Can:
This can is fictitious, produced using props and effects. This is the information to be disseminated by agent 1;
The can was not dropped by a rat, it was found floating amongst the complex in the first stage of the Minmatar Contracted Bio-farm Deadspace Complex at Orduin once all the rats had been killed.
The can was called Z-0m813 (batch failed). No owner information was available; this was not dropped by a player.
The can contained 12x Experimental DNA.
The description of the Experimental DNA was the same as that of Sample DNA.
When the cargo was removed from the can it burst.
When the Experimental DNA was placed into Items at Orduin IV a message appeared that stated ‘Cargo being transferred to Minmatar Research Station’. The cargo was then removed.
No payment was received for the cargo.
1.5 Plant rumour:
Agent 1 returns to Orduin the next day and clears out the rats again at roughly the same time as the screenshot from earlier was taken.
Agent 2 waits in a station at Orduin on local channel. The second player should not be from the same corp as the first.
Agent 1 returns to a station in Orduin and chats in local about the can.
Agent 2 is a stooge and will prompt the conversation and help hold the interest of the other players.
Other players in local must get involved in this dialogue for this to work.
No conclusions will be drawn and agent 1 will part saying he will ask on a specific forum.
1.7 Extend rumour
Agent 1 places a post in the general section of a popular Eve forum asking about the can and the events surrounding it, and if anybody else has experienced anything similar.
Agent 1 claims to have thought the situation odd so took a screenshot of the pod and its cargo. This is the doctored screenshot, created 24 hours before the live run in 1.6, and will hopefully be hosted in 5punk’s domain name.
When this yields no positive results the player will post the question on other forums, including 5punk.
Hopefully this will pique enough interest to ignite the touch paper and launch at least part of the community into a conspiracy frenzy. Once the rumour has enough interest phase 2 can be launched.

Phase 2: Implication
This phase is a series of staged events that will be held in highly visible systems in order to fuel the rumours further. Hints will be dropped as to the whereabouts of ‘secret experiments’ for players to track down. By the end of phase 2 5punkorp should be implicated in a sinister plot and will hopefully have drawn enough attention to get a place on the logon page.
2.1 Implicating 5punkorp
Once it is clear that somebody has noticed the set-piece Amblin will create a new thread about the research.
The thread will explain about Agent 1 discovering an event that may make us a fairly hefty profit.
The work involves dubious research for a third party, who will not be contacting 5punkorp directly.
The research materials will be dropped by a courier in Orindur at the Minmatar Contracted Bio-farm at a date set a few days from the creation of the post.
Amblin requests as many 5punkers be present as possible to pick this up, to ensure its security.
5punkers should reply to the thread as though they know nothing of Operation Bubba.
At some point near the time of pickup Amblin will post the password to a secure container.
The password is Bubba.
2.2 Planting evidence
Agent 2 drops a secure container into the Minmatar Contracted Bio-farm and sets the password to Bubba.
It will contain 12x DNA (preferably sample DNA, but criminal DNA may have to do) and 12x reports. The container will be named ‘Research pickup <date>’.
The date and time should be a few hours after the drop off.
At the time set on the container as many 5punkers as can be mustered approaches it. Hopefully it will have attracted some attention and a few players will be lurking around to see who turns up.
If nobody is around simply rename the container for a few hours ahead and return later.
Repeat until somebody has seen the event, or even better until somebody finds the password on 5punk and steals the contents.
Post on the thread that the research material has been recovered/stolen.
If it was stolen, leave another container with a pickup time but do not post the password. Pick up the container at the correct time.
2.3 Reeling ‘em in
Once one or more players (hopefully even Corps) have been suckered in they will be reading the spoof thread.
Amblin places a post on the spoof thread about a scheduled experiment happening at a set location (A Frulegur ‘roid field for want of anywhere better).
Once again as many 5punkers as possible attend it the proposed time and location.
Aside from one person on rat cover duty, each 5punker should be fitted with a different ECM device.
A canister is dropped containing livestock (or homeless if we’re feeling adventurous) and we randomly hit it with all sorts of flashy looking ECM devices.
One person will co-ordinate in local saying things like; “Dog Pants – more power with the gamma”, “Jaeger, hold fire with the x-rays for a sec”.
This is done a few times, until it’s obvious people are showing up to see what’s going on.
2.4 Landing the fish
Place a few more posts on the thread about moving to a more secure location because of outside interference.
Place posts a little while later claiming partial success in reanimating tissue but being unable to transfer neural information.
Suggest experiments continue on better subjects; newly podded pilots.
Wait for the outrage, and hopefully the news article.
Reveal the hoax.
