A Cronenburg thing. Viggo mortensen, that vincent cassel guy who's in a lot of euro stuff, some other faces you'll recognise too.
Russian Mafia in London, led by an old man who starts out seemingly very nice but suddenly looks rather sinister. Viggo starts off as a driver and works his way through the ranks, getting 'stars above his heart' as a captain.
Russian girl is trafficked/raped/dies after giving birth and causes an over zealous doctor type played by naomi watts to enter the mobsters world.
Very violent throat cutting/knife fight scenes, including a naked viggo scrapping in a public tukish style sweat bath with his wang slapping all over the place.
Good length (twss). Slightly unfulfilling ending. Good acting, directing, screenplay and editing.
A classy film, well worth a sweep.
7.5/10

A very good film indeed. i went to see this at the cinema when it first came out, and was pleasantly surprised. i was expecting a run of the mill gangster drama, but it was not. instead i got a gritty and realistic portrait of how the russian mob works (well, nobody knows for sure, but it looks genuine enough) The only thing that slightly bothered me was Viggo's russian accent. But that was mainly because i kept expecting him to say: FOR THE SHIRE!!11!1ONE
A very good uncomplicated film, of wich there simply aren't enough.
