Spray Tags

Post by Nickface »

Ok, so I'm trying to make a spray tag with transparency parts to it, but I'll be damned if I can't get it to work properly. Is there anyone here that's made them before so I can ask them, rather than be subject to the snickering insults of "OMFG U SUK!" or the like? :D

-=LaNiMeL=- always goes on about them, so he's probably your best bet.

PM him, or try to catch him on xfire

Last time I made a Spray Tag it was for Half-Life... it just used grayscale for transparency- i.e.: black=100% opaque, white=100% transparent.

Things have probably moved on since then though.

I'm sure Google will be very helpful, if you offer it some biscuits.

Google has led me to threads with the 12 year olds I'm so affraid to look at :P

I'll just screw around with it some more. I've tried Wally, but the damn thing keeps showing up as a solid color rather than transparent.

If you're talking about CS 1.6 then I can't help you. I've been trying to recreate my Che Guevera pic to import into CS 1.6 without any luck. CS:S is much easier...

The little spray tool import doesn't let you bring in GIF files. Just JPG, BMP, TGA and VTF files.

Some of the write ups for transparency say to make sure the background it pure blue (O, O, 255) and that should show up as transparent, but it doesn't look that way.

Sucess! I have managed to get it to work by loosely following the tuorital found here. I didn't follow it exactly. Because the lil' preview window showed the background as opaque when i used the VTF file, so I went back and tried the TGA and it worked.

Here's a pic of the tag in action:

and for those who wish to use this tag, you can nab it right here

Fucking good work Nickface!

Any chance of sending the image in it's modified format, so that it can be sticky'd for other 5punkers to use?

Sure thing. But please define "Modified Format?"

I think the .TGA I linked to should properly work if imported to CS:S. I can also send you the PSD or however else you want do it can be utiliized. You'll just have to wait for me to get back from work ;)
