i would expect its a case of copying the existing quoting code and changing 2 words, but i could be wrong

Mostly, yes. Any other code would be a three or four line job. Quotes handling is massive and complicated though because it has to figure out how to handle codes inside it, and stuffing "|speech" in there isn't going to cut it.
So unless you can convince me otherwise, it's better to just pretend they're texting eachother.
Of course, we could just change the layout of the existing quotes to something more ambiguous.
to be frank, I really don't even look at that. Since we all use different color text it's easy to determine who's talking. Putting it in the quote tags just signifies that we're talking in character instead of working shit out and talking to the GM.
