Amsterdam is nice, but it's really pricey if you intend on getting drunk lots.

Prague has lots of problems at the moment, and is a bit dodgy, so I'd stay away if I were you.

France has french people, plus there have been lots of rioting and so on in the city streets.

I've always fancied going to Sweden for some reason.

Amsterdam has lots of English people of unsteady gait asking you where the red light district is.

Madrid has the same aroma you get if you stand between a McDonalds and a KFC, only more so.

What? What problems? I went there last yeah and loved it. It has fit locals, cheap booze and also heritige & history.
Cost peanuts as well.

Only one of the 8 of us there had trouble, and that was his fault anyway and would have happened anywhere.

Well, with the wonders of EasyJet, Ryan Air and Thomsonfly, flights to pretty much anywhere in Europe are very cheap. Stupidly cheap.

So it really just depends on what you want out of the trip.

If you just want to go boozing, then a city such as Amsterdam or Prague would be good.

If you want to be more touristy try Italy - Venice and Rome in particular.

If you want sun, swim and beaches, then I recommend the Algarve (Portugal). Very cheap outside of August and incredibly nice.

For a mixture of the above, then try the Canaries (Fuertaventura), or the Mediterranian Isles (Ibiza etc).

Hope that helps!

Tylorva (well-travelled - been to all the above places and many more!).

Only the occasional rape, murder, vicious attack and muggings.

Supposedly crime is really bad there at the moment, and I think a lot of political issues are at the forefront of demonstrations and so on.
Supposedly a brilliant place, but very recently there has been lots of problems, so if you are gonna go, just check it out with the tourist board to see what's going on.

So to sum up, about the same as London on an average day really

how peculiar, went there for new years (not the last one, the one before) and ever felt safer in a big city. The only one of the large group of us who went that had any problems was the guy who, on reflection, may in fact have mugged/kidnapped himself. This was after a mighty drinking binge involving absinthe and some godawful "Black Death" Tequila.
Best New Years ive ever had, I think.

Me and the lady went to Budapset last summer, that was cheap (not immensly so, but cheaper than average) and had quite a bit to do, if you like the whole "culture" thing. Not sure what it would be like for a group, as the times we went out tended towards the smaller, "nice with your significant other" style of places. Many places to swim, they are a little obsessed with it. Plus, you could stay on a floatell (floating hotel). But dont. Its shit.

I went to Florida for spring break last year, but it sucked because my spring break was at the end of February, and it was rather mild, it only was in the high 60's. It was a lot better than the snow on the ground, mind you. ;)
