Had a little mining op going down at the POS with me tanking in my Ferox which I was rather pleased about. Sadly we got jumped by a crowd of VIRII and I lost both Ferox and barge. Thankfully the others got away, but we did lose most of the ore we'd mined. Also thankfully, I've been doing so much damn ratting that I could buy a T2 fitted Ferox straight out so I'm back to square one again.
Anyone up for some ratting?
And another one bights the dust

Sniping ships, they had a scout inty who popped up first pretty far away so we need some one to snipe them while the rest of us run away. I'm just looking for an excuse to do some pvp.amblin wrote:We're taking heavy losses at the moment and I'm wondering what we can do. If anything.
And yes, i'm up for ratting, i'm down to 20 mil after fitting out my new brutix.
true enough in theory. Batleships at range should spane anything it catches at rnage, but from personal experience it's actually amazingly hard to hit a fast moving frig, even if it's heading in a straight line towards you. If you did hit them though, it usually caused some nasty amounts of pain, as my bio ingame will show.
I'll talk to my CEO bosss man, see what he says about Megathrons at range hitting frigs. My own experience of course is limited to tempests. With the 1400mm cannons that have amazingly cack tracking.

Part of the reason we were taken by surprise yesterday is that we were mid conversation with a friendly alliance guy from next doorand lost concentration on Local. Rats transit the system regularly but since everyone has instas they are rarely around for more than a few seconds. Should a rat be around for longer than that, it is a clear indicator that he is scouting the belts for us. We have fallen foul of this twice - once when we actively sought them out and this last time when they found us. Both times they had a small fleet or often cheap ships (mostly T1 cruisers and intys, but sometimes AFs or even HACs) using a combination of ECM, scramblers and webbers with some heavy hitters. Until such time as we can adequately defend ourselves against such a fleet, and indeed have the confidence, knowledge and skills to operate the same way they do, we need to:
1. All keep an eagle eye on Local, possibly with nominate individuals as the alarm raiser.
2. Run for the POS if a rat is in system for anymore than say, 10 - 15 seconds.
3. Never mine in the first two or last two belts (the first to get checked by a hostile rat obviously).
Finally, I have been given a hot tip by an experienced 0.0 miner that I'll investigate this evening. It may be a great help, may not. We'll see.
