Blu-ray Victory Likely To Boost PS3 Sales
Yahoo! Games says that the Blu-ray victory will have a positive impact on PS3 sales. It seems only logical that anyone looking for an inexpensive Blu-ray player that is future-proof will jump on a PS3. Thanks to 4saken for the linkage.
With Blu-ray the crowned champion, many on-the-fence hi-def consumers will now finally take the plunge -- and inevitably, they will find the PS3 a perfect value option given its comparatively cheap cost as a Blu-ray player with the substantial benefit of its media center and gaming functions.

I still think the outcome isn't definite. As an example my Dad has been looking into going all Hi-Def and spent a fair few hours last weekend looking it all up.
He doesn't want a PS3 even though it has the player built in and doesn't want to spend £350 quid on a Blu-ray player when a HD-DVD player is only £150 and he won't be able to notice any difference in quality between the two formats.
The general public are pretty damn fickle when it comes to this stuff. Cheaper option will win and I'll be pretty damn suprised if it doesn't.

Except HD-DVD is stone cold dead. As in DEAD. It's deader than Ronald Reagan.

Toshiba aren't making any more players. While this wasn't necessarily the end for it, the way it was announced is likely to mean all other manufacters of the drives (ie: NEC) will make a similar announcement soon. When that happens studios won't bother releasing any new content on the format, Warner Bros have already announced they are dropping it.
There's still a big library of stuff out there already, but the timing of the announcement probably means we'll never see affordable HDDVD writers so it isn't even going to be a cheap way to view "home-made" HD content - which going the XBox route is possible without the drive already.

'I' as in you chicken and 'think' I regard as words generally not going together, a case in point would be your uber rig of doom, which is a complete waste of money and should be spent on surgery so women will look at you without being sick in their mouth. In this particular instance the outcome is definite - big stores, developers, producers, distributors and stockists have chosen, they have chosen blu-ray. Even the company that championed hd-dvd have given up. Prepare to be surprised whilst the rest of us just shake our collective heads at you as per usual.

Fuck you Pete!! I'm all up for a bit of laughy jokey banter as much as the next guy but that comment has crossed the line of simple banter.
Actually, HD-Dooovvd still has the slimist of slim chances to come out on top.
IF all the current HD Player manufacturers stop producing, and retailers drop prices to stupid low levels, and depending on how many are sitting in warehouses ready to be sold, it's still possible for the format to come out on top purely if lots of homes have them.
I suspect it'll just quietly fade into the night and BR become the norm.
