Changing my monitor re-fresh rate
Just got my nice new graphics card, only when I boot windows under normal conditions (it's running in safe mode fine atm) it's giving me a signal error: out of range message.
Having a had a poke about on google, looks like the culprit is my refresh rate, but I can't find the blinking setting to change it. Anyone got any suggestions as to where I can change it?

I that that's where it was. The option area is there, but the only available option is to use the hardware default settings on the screen refresh rate.
When I was setting the machine up again, it didn't install any kind of monitor drivers. My gut thinks it's that, but I'm really not an expert...
EDIT: ok, found the drivers, so I'm gona get those installed, and hopefully that'll fix it.
SECOND EDIT: nope, that didn't seem to work. grr...

ATI cards seem a bit dodgy with refresh rates, or at least the one in my other PC is, go here: http://www.radeon2.ru/refreshfix_eng.html and scroll to the bottom to download and see if it fixes your problem.
Thank ye, that seems to have fixed that problem. Unfortunatly one of the cores (or I think it's ones of the cores. My hardware manager shows up two graphics cards)seems to be damaged, so now i can't use it to play earth 2160, which is why I bought the damn thing in the first place
Says to try the safe mode, I do that, gives me the same error. Only way I'm using it righ now is by disabling the faulty core (ok ok, if I'm wrong about this shoot me later). Right now I'm just praying I can play eve in 1 hour 10 mins...

that would explain why disabling the scondary fubars my display, but disabling the first doesn't...
What would explain this eror message then: An error has occured while initalizing Direct3D. Insufficient graphic card properties or configurations / driver problems could be causing this. Try running the game in safe mode (-safemode execution parameter).
I've got Direct X 9.0c installed, so what's your expert opinion on this?

Was it a clean install of drivers? (http://www.drivercleaner.net/)
also, try swapping your monitor to the primary display (often using the secondary will cause problems)
not to mention that the fix has probably screwed more up.

*comming to you live from windows safe mode*
Thanks for the idea, but I was greated by a light blue screen and a mouse that would only scroll sideways. Re-booted and and I just getting a completely blank screen. So, disabling the primary port now and seeing how it behaves.
edit: yes, working again after a standard boot-up now. Confounded thing....
