Sim City, come back :(

Post by Nicketal »

Has anyone else played the new "Sim City" "Game" SimCity Societies?
Its very hard for a game to disappoint when you have nothing but low expectations, but good lord what were they thinking.
Thanks EA, for applying your McDonalds style of game production to another classic series.
So yeah anyone else been offended by this market-stall toss, or SHOCK FUCKING HORROR, played it and enjoyed themselves?

SimCity 4 was awfully easy but it was fun to play for a few hours. EA has low standards though, you'll have to get over it :(

You thought 4 was easy?! This one has an infinite money setting as a STANDARD GAME TYPE. You might as well just draw a fucking city.

I have Sim City Societies, it didn't really grab me. More like the Sims than anything, but rather boring with the stock set of buildings. At least the Sims has a million things you can download to make your macabre creations more unique.

I guess it's rather clumsily aimed at Sims fans - but the ones I've shown it to don't like it much either. It's not the Simsville whose cancellation they're still crying over, and not nearly so engaging as the extra areas and character-centric options granted through the Sims expansion packs.

WHAT? Infinite money?
*retrieves an arabian turban from under the desk*
*gets on a plane to USA*
*hijacks the plane and crashes it into the EA headquarters*

Good call. I've always been crap at Sim City games, the transport gets me every time. I've got 2000 or 3000 somewhere though, so I might give it another whirl because it's rather a good game, even if I am crap.

:above: Very much this. I was terrible at it, but I might have to dig out SC3000 now, assuming I can get it to run on Fista.

I hated all the "Sims" elements introduced in SC4, and so I have been very reluctant to check out societies.

I've always loved the idea of Sim City, but, like Dog Pants, I utterly fail at it.

I sucked at SC2k and SC3k, so SC4k being a little bit easier was quite a pleasant change. And Giant size was more than enough for me to build it up before I get bored. It's like being the Prime Minister of USA and not being allowed to start a nuclear war.

I, too found the originals much too hard and formed the opinion that only budding town-planners could get anywhere in it. I preferred Populous, at the time.

I think 2K was the last one I actually attempted, which of course was many years before the "Sim" name became irrevocably linked with the "The Sims".

Perhaps like the OP, I was hoping for a more cerebral experience with Societies, but had realistic expectations given the direction the franchise (and indeed pretty much everything these days) is going - but hadn't expected something quite so...mundane.

I found Populous far easier to get into. Very addictive, and I played it again a few years ago and found it almost as compelling. Such a shame about Bullfrog.

I was utter shit at 2, 3 and 4 and normally gave up not long after.

Then I invested a bit of time into 4. I got good at it.

and it was probably the worst thing that ever happened to me. I spent about 2 weeks, none stop, playing SC4 over the summer holidays of 2005 or 2006. I can't honestly remember, it's such a blur...

I had the most fantastic city... I was so proud...

But since then, I've had to promise myself I won't even install it, cause it could probably make me a full on hermit.
