A new Starwars RTS appears
WHAT DO YOU DO?
---
What with the horrendous failure of horse-Commander, and Galatic Battlegrounds sinking stealthily off the radar a few months after it came out, what do we think the chances for "Empire at War" are? It looks quite nice, all the old style people there, some good looking maps, and the ability to use the death-star. On the other hand there are some things that look a bit dodgy - Vader going off to kill enemy troops on foot, and the sudden addition of "Tanks" for both people seems a bit odd.

Is this the one with space battles too? That looked quite good, but it's true - Star Wars RTSs have sucked without exception.
I will base my judgement on:
Does it have Gungans in it?
Is it a console port or being released on consoles in parallel?
If either answer is yes I expect it'll be pants.
Also, tanks are legitimate Star Wars canon, you just don't see them in the film.

Nope, it's set in the time just before Episode IV and ends at epidose VI, with either the destruction of the death star, or the destruction of the rebel alliance. There will not be any gungans, as far as I can see - (Though you can play on Naboo, maybe you'll encounter some there? I have no idea. They're not a playable race though).
Doesnt look like its a console game, either.
Heh, they said that they were taking items out of the roleplaying book, so I suppose the tanks were there? They've also got things like "Level 5" Rebel Starbases. Everything looks very pretty!

Yeah, actually. You rumbled me: I was a tabletop roleplayer as a teenager, and Star Wars was one of my big favourites. Hopefully that means they'll include the ships from the RPG too (although I think most of them and more were in the X-Wing/Tie Fighter series).Grimmie wrote: Heh, they said that they were taking items out of the roleplaying book, so I suppose the tanks were there?
Never heard of the Rebel Starbases though.
