I'm assuming my current keys won't work, as the only game that's done that so far is Prey. I'm guessing the option to allow this is unpopular as the makers presumably have to pay more for the option, yet actually are likely to get less income as a result.

I've bought all the GTA3 games twice already, and while a patchable, easy to transport version is appealing, I really don't think I should need to be buying them again.

I think it's more just the technical hassle of integrating Steam's serial number checking system into the games. It's not a trivial job and I'm guessing the developers don't want to do that when it isn't going to really generate any revenue.

It's a cost thing, I think. (in the manner of bandwidth and such, devs would have to pay for it)
