Well, thats a bit of a bogus argument. Its not that you dont have to upgrade or patch, so much as you *cant* upgrade or patch.
Ive not spent more than £100 in one go on upgrading my computer for years. Its probably cost me a bit more in the long run than keeping up to date with a console, but then to keep up to date with consoles you have to spend multiple hundreds in one go. The kind of cash I never have all at once.
As for crashes and patches: You do get crashes. Lets not forget that an X-Box is essentially a specialised PC. Its not some magic code fixing device. If the code is buggy, it will crash. I have managed to crash games on the x-box before. Except with a console, if a game is released with a bug they didnt notice, theres fuck all they can do about it. But with a PC, they can fix it, via patching.
And lets not forget that a lot of patches dont just fix bugs, they fix design flaws and add stuff to the game, often making the multiplayer experience a whole lot sweeter.
