The Movies
So, people are playing this.
Opinions? I figured this was more strategy (or managament) based so I'd shove the thread in here, as it didn't really fir anywhere else. After a long stint of work I managed to produce a 2-Star movie, which I was pretty proud of.
I'm also starting off in Sandbox mode, which proves to be a lot less stressful, so I can just concentrate on making decent films. Hooray!
Is anyone considering making a 5punk movie?
Should we have a competition and have some 5punk personalities judge them?

Re: The Movies
Woo! Ace idea! I really like the sound of this game, but with EVE and COD2 eating my gaming time up, and Civ4 waiting in the wings I doubt I'll ever find the time to play it.Grimmie wrote: Is anyone considering making a 5punk movie?

Which just goes to prove the phrase we've got on the wall of our workshop:mrbobbins wrote:Why?,FatherJack wrote:I saw this game and thought it was another Sims spinoff. Not sure if they've done themselves any favours there.
because The Sims is the best selling computer game of all time??!
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups

I was kind of asking if it was a Sims spinoff, 'cos if it is, that's all fine and good.mrbobbins wrote:Why?,FatherJack wrote:I saw this game and thought it was another Sims spinoff. Not sure if they've done themselves any favours there.

If it isn't though, then aping their design style is a lose-lose. People who don't like the Sims won't give it a second glance, and people who do will see it as a Sims ripoff.
Incidentally I own almost every Sims game, so it's not as if I dislike them.

no, its not a Sims spin off.FatherJack wrote: I was kind of asking if it was a Sims spinoff, 'cos if it is, that's all fine and good.
To be honest, the kind of people who have a passionate dislike for the Sims are unlikely to like this game whatever it looks like. As for the people who *do* like the Sims (which is a pretty large group), a fair proportion of them wont be put off as they will see that its just the interface that looks a little like the sims. A fair proportion will go: "Ohh, the sims had a good interface, so this must have a good interface too." And lets not forget that the Sims market includes people daft enough to lay out their hard earned cash for some of the crappest add-ons in the history of gaming, so I imagine theres going to be a fair few who buy it, play it and enjoy it all while under the false impression that it actually is a Sims game.If it isn't though, then aping their design style is a lose-lose. I really cant see that associating yourself with the most popular game franchise in PC history is going to hurt your sales.
But back to the original point of the thread: Yeah, ive been planning on making a movie for 5punk, but my first effort was....well....shite. More practise required.

I dont think you quite appreciate the level of shite we are talking about here.
highlights include:
Chicken Monster on the Subway (chicken on a train. Gets stabbed in the face)
Man Falls Over (a man falls over on a bit of bannaaanananaana)
Incredibly Bad Continuity film (man dies, then is seen running away. turns up later too. Occasionally there are too many aliens.)

I suppose so, it's only that if it were not up to the high standards of the original it would disappoint a lot of people, and word would get around. Even to daft people.Joose wrote:I really cant see that associating yourself with the most popular game franchise in PC history is going to hurt your sales.
There have been a few disappointing attempts at Sims-like games most of which can be picked for under a fiver, even in PC World.
However, this game seems like a decent title judging by the amount some people are playing it - and as you say, only reminiscent of the Sims, rather than trying to do the same thing.
I'll be an actor for you! My name is Dog Pants, and for the script rip off Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. But replace Indiana Jones with soldiers (he's not in COD you see) and replace the Ark of the Covenent with the Bath of the Covenent. Call it Blood Bath at Barrel 230*.Grimmie wrote:I think I will make a COD 5punk movie, using the World-War sets.
In the meantime, I need names of 5punkers, pictures, and ideas for a script and title. Preferably something bath-related.
*Tell me the significance of Barrel 230 then Vowlsey
