text message scams

i just got a text message from someone saying they went to my sixth form and that they thought i was cute. given my ever increasing cynicism about the world i am inclined to believe that this is probably some kind of scam and that by replying i will be inadvertently giving someone all my money or something.

is there anywhere i can check for a list of numbers associated with text message scams?

I've had emails replying to ads on Gumtree etc with a mobile number asking me to ring them, but they've been 070 numbers which are expensive and usually scammers. Googling the number will certainly help.

Googling it will turn it up as fake if it's been done to a few people. there are other ways, that cost monies, but you may just want to find an alternate way of getting in touch with this dude and asking him why he thinks your cute.

I'd think it was a scam if it happened to me, but I never went to sixth form

turns out it was genuine. She got my number from my sister who has just started working in the same place (no not a brothel).

it also turns out she's a really pretty girl that i used to fancy, so we're gonna meet up for a drink at some point
