Warcraft 3 (again)
Right, ive tried this before, but I get the feeling I might have more success this time round.
In a mad moment of enthusiasm, ive 5cheduled a game for next week, here.
If you dont have it, get it. It can be bought for very little monies.
If you really dont want to part with monies, getting floorware versions online is possible/alledgedly easy.
EDIT: Dont worry about your skill level. From the sounds of things we are all as bad as each other, so it should be fine.

It's utter arse-hat!
Works a lot in the singleplayer campaign, doesnt work in multiplayer. Largely because in singleplayer campaign, the computer sits back and lets you, whereas in multiplayer, your opponent is doing the same as you, so the numbers game wont work.Amass the troops and rush! Repeat!
Plus, if charge with the wrong mix of troops, your opponent will trounce you.
Plus, player who uses the special abilities right will always win against the plain "build em and rush em" tactic.
Plus, name me a RTS where this isnt at least a possibility? Hell, I beat Medieval: Total war using that tactic, and thats often touted as being one of the best strategy games out there. I would certainly say that the C&C games are worse offenders.

Yus. Ish. If everyone involved has non-floor versions, then battlenet will be easier. If someone with a floor version is involved, magic and trickery will be involved.deject wrote:might be better busing hamachi because battle.net checks for cd-keys, right?
However, probably wont be through hamachi. Theres another program you can use which is a lot less of a pain in the ass. For one thing, only the person hosting the game needs to have it running. I'll grab it over the weekend and have a look-see as to how it works properly, but it should be dead easy.

I shall report back on the magic and trickery once I have fully investigated. From what I gather, though, most of the hard work (such as it is) is on the end of whoever sets it up. Every one else simply joins in like its a LAN game. Should work with both floor and non-floor flavours, as long as everyone has the same version.

Right, i have the Magic and Trickery ready, and believe I understand how it works. It is, however, a little hazy as to what versions of Warcraft it will work with. So if someone else here has a copy, I wouldnt mind giving it a test run at some point soon to see whether it works. Any volunteers?
NOTE: all you need is the game, the buggering around will be done all at my end.

ROXXORS! I ARE TEH L33T HAXXOR!
*ahem*
Right, all you need to do is open/forward port 6112 on your end and then, when we are ready to play, you send me your IP address. I host the game and everyone involved (should) see the game in their LAN games browser. FTW!
As sir Nick says, it all works admirably.
