randoms.
is it just me, or are we really not as shit at games as we all think we are? i've been messing about on random servers for a while now, and i always seem to be ending up somewhere at the top. wich is, as you all know, very unusual in my case. i still get killed a whole lot, but my kill rate appears to be much higher than when i play with you lot. i wonder if anyone else has the same thing?

Re: randoms.
It's a funny one, I think we've all got a lot better over the years.
But we're probably still only good in comparison to most randoms on most public servers.
Put us against anyone who takes gaming seriously, and we'd get bumhugged to death. twice.
Edit: However, I think the whole shit thing still holds true, It mostly doesn't matter if you're good or bad on 5punk, we still have fun in most games we play.

I kind of half agree with Berk.
Some of us are rather good (Slinger, Berk at times), but the rest of us seem to actually be quite competent.
It's probably down to the fact we shout and swear at each other for being cunts, so we can play the games properly and get used to them.
That and alot of randoms do seem quite useless at times, I spot it on other games, I generally do quite well at CSS, Beef, and more shooty shooty FPS's (not including Teef, for some utter reason I'm crap at it).
And on maps where it's a few 5punkers playing randoms, our teamplay skillz seem to always put us near or on top of others.

It's maybe like sport - if you regularly play against people who are better than you you'll improve. Playing randoms there's always likely be some who aren't as good, but for most of us on the 5punky server we're all pretty similar apart from a couple who are better. Those few drive us all to get better, and there's never really anyone a lot worse. I do think that compared to a random server ours is much tougher.

I think playing regularly with tough opponents makes you better, but it's equally true that playing with the same people makes you better against them as you learn their tactics.
I've never been particularly fantastic at any game - never tried or wanted to be, narf - but sitting somewhere in the middle, there's no 5punker I can never manage to kill, and none that can never kill me, so it all seems rather even. I tend to ping-pong between the bottom and top of leaderboards, as I subsequently try better/worse class/tactic combinations to try to reverse the result of the previous round. It's what keeps me interested.
Most of the games we play do involve some element of knowing each other, and that's exactly what keeps it entertaining for me least - mowing down, or being killed by legions of randoms is not far enough from SP to hold my interest. I don't think I'd play a single one of my games in MP if it wasn't for 5cheduled games.
I've said this elsewhere before, but I don't think we're that shit either. I've not ventured into public server cod yet as there are always so many 5punkers willing to play, but I think that generally our standard of play is actually reasonably high. As a team, we always tend to do well because whether we mean to or not, TS makes us communicate far more than most teams ever would, even allowing for the amount of general banter and abuse. This is true in all games, and in Beef the 5punk squad was almost always the best one on a server by a considerable margin. I never really play against "serious" gamers, but 5punkers are definitely above average on public servers, especially when there are a few of us playing together.

This, hard. If if wasn't for playing with the same bunch of like-minded people, especially over TS, then I doubt online gaming would have ever held my interest this long, and through so many different games.FatherJack wrote: Most of the games we play do involve some element of knowing each other, and that's exactly what keeps it entertaining for me least - mowing down, or being killed by legions of randoms is not far enough from SP to hold my interest. All of that posted above.
The TS element of 5punk is what brought me back tonight after a considerable (3 month) break from PC gaming. I love playing with like minded people who don't mind bouncing banter around and being a bit daft.
Beef is one of the best examples of 5punkers out playing random servers by far. We work a lot better as a sum of all parts than a bunch of lone wolf randoms, whilst still being a bunch of overly loud bastards hurling abuse down our mics.

Re: randoms.
Well I don't live upto my name *as much as I did*, yet I still do *especially at times*
I think this whole thing excludes gunslinger *who I'm sure we should enter into some tournements to whin us all monies*
But we will always be 5punk'ers, shit at games but we are all here for the gaming equivalent of a kick around in the park. Or maybe we're just not bored of calling each other cunts yet...
But really I don't care whether I'm shit or fucking 'pwnin' (as the kids may say) I'm here, and I'm still here as 5punk has attracted a great crowd over the years, and you can tell who got the whole fun thing as they are still here *pretty much anyway* But I'm glad to be back and getting my arse kicked by people who *may* be worthy of kicking my ass, not by some fuckead cunting 12year old yank.
