Very good.
If you like Buffy/Angel, you'll probably like this. It not got quite as many funnies, but the ones that are there are...er...funny. Got some nice touches for a sci-fi, such as the space sounds being realistic (ie, there are none, except for ones you hear in point-of-view shots), original ideas, nicely beleivable characters. Its good, watch it.
Is there a series of <insert name here> that was broadcast on Sci-Fi/Sky One etc.... and was made by the creatorsof Buffy, and it has now been turned into a film?
All I've seen/heard about this is a trailer I caught during adverts on the TV, and it involved space, shooting things, and a bloke at the end saying "from the creators of Buffy The Vampire Slayer".
Can you clear this up a bit for me, as I'm a huge fan of Buffy/Angel (Angel more so) and would really like to pick the series up off the floor (whatever it's called).
The series is called Firefly (after the kind of ship they fly around in).
The film that is coming out is called Serenity (because thats what their firefly class ship is actually called).
It was written by Joss Wheadon, the fella who wrote both Buffy and Angel (and, wierdly, Toy Story and Alien:Resurrection. Now theres an odd collection).
Its best described as a Western in Space, but with funny bits in a very Buffy/Angel style. Not as many funnies, but they are still there.
Annoyingly, due to the Fox network being run by utter, utter wankers, the show got canceled before they could really finish the first series. Despite the fact that it was hugely popular and the Fox offices almost disappearing under the complaints from fans. Wankers. (Fox, not the fans)
Apparently, though, all the plot that was left flapping around at the "end" of the series is being dealt with in the film. I have heard it said that people have gone to see the film (in america, where its already out) without seeing the series and enjoyed it. I would imagine you'll enjoy it more if you watch the series first though.
The main reason I like it is due to the fact its fairly beleavable sci-fi. Yes, its the future, and they are in space, but theres no rubber foreheaded aliens, they have wicker chairs and a wood table rather than everything being shiney shiney metal, etc etc. Watch it! Now!
I believe (but don't quote me on this), that in Joss Wheadon's recent email to Firefly fans he has stated that he would like the Firefly TV series to be seen by as many people as possible, virtually encouraging people to hand out copies of the DVDs to friends and relatives. This may be why there are so many copies 'lying around on the floor'.
I must confess to being a fan myself and have for the past two years, gradually been replacing my usual 'cool' or 'excellent' with 'shiny'.
The Scifi channel was running the full(ish) series back to back over the weekend.
I've never seen any episodes of Firefly, but I thought the commercial for Serenity looked quite interesting, should I find some episodes of Firefly that may be laying around my floor before seeing Serenity, or do you think it won't make a difference?
