I just started playing Far Cry again and found a way to get around the auto-save crap that annoyed me to bits the last time round and I thought I'd share:
Change the properties of the shortcut you use to start the game and add "-Devmode" to the end, like this:
This will give you F9 - quicksave, F10 - quickload.
I've had problems with the HUD disappearing after quickloads though so you might want to go to the menu and load instead which seems to stop the problem occuring.
edit: the above problem is caused when I quickload during the short death sequence with the blurred vision, etc. Loading from the menu solves it.

I only got to the other end of the island, then got bored.
This seems to eb a reoccuring theme with single player gaming recently as I have only got to Ravenholm in HL2, and haven't bothered to pick it up and play again

but the island is very purrdy, the most jungle-like jungle I've ever seen in cyborspace

I think it's got good and bad points, mostly it just looks nice. The mutant things are unimaginative from what I can see so far but the AI is pretty good I think and I'm liking this shotgun type weapon I've just picked up, BOOOM!
