Ah well that was IDLAP day. And the hillside was the first couple of steps of a 15 mile walk.

Anyway...

Yarr! It be the

Great 5punkorp Treasure Hunt

It's a race!

It's a quiz!

It's an adventure!

Win 250,000 Doubloons (well ISK)

The hunt begins at the Erlendur - Frulegur jump gate on monday the 19th of September at 1700BST.

Terms and conditions apply:
The competition will consist of a chain of secure cans across several systems, each containing a bookmark to the next. In the notes of the bookmark is a question, the answer to which is the password to the next secure can in the chain. The final can contains the prize. The first can will be dropped at the above time and location. The competition is open to all classes and configurations of ship. Removing more than one bookmark from a can, or firing on a rival competitor will result in disqualification.

Well it's ready to roll any time from now, so the date's flexible. Whenever's best for the most people. I picked Monday because Mrs Pants is at work and I can give it my undivided attention, but I did most of the work last night so if everyone can agree on an alternative then I'm fine with that.

Although tuesday is COD night...

It had its flaws I'll admit, but none of them big enough to stop it working if I do it properly.

1. I need to remember the password to the first can. D'oh.
2. I need to check that I've put all the bookmarks in their cans.
3. Notes in bookmarks don't copy into the can, so the question will have to be in the name of the bookmarks.
4. I still think money is a bit of an uninspiring prize but I can't think of anything else that everyone would be able to use.

Anyone else any criticisms or comments? It went well enough for me to do it again I think.

Well, with us about to move into ship packages, we could always offer up a package as a price.Nice, flexible and simple.

Even though I arrived late and came last. Well, can you work out 58 in roman numerals whilst you have two screaming kids arguing over who has the most toys? That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :)

If we get enough outside interest, it might prove a good promotional venture.

One suggestion I would like to make however is:- Can we have the question for the Password at the same location as the can. At the moment you have a few seconds to answer the question whist travelling to the next location. Which just turns it into a race as it makes it all about the ship’s speed rather than the questions? I'm not sure how logistically possible this is, because you don't want anybody happening upon the can, solving the password and emptying the contents. Maybe a second can somewhere? Hmm needs thought.

Hmmm. Fair point, I'll have a think about that. It's true that most people got the answers before they arrived at the next can, and with the mighty Google there's not much can be done about that.

Google, who used google.. You'll be telling me next that all you have to do is type in 58 in roman numerals and google instantly retuns '58 = LVIII'.
