If you want a laugh at the expense of trekkies (or trekkers as they insist they are called) then watch Trekkies and Trekkies 2, the first one is amazing, the second not so amazing but still good

and despite evidence to the contrary I am not a trekkie 8)

When are the beta and release dates?
We are not yet ready to announce beta or release timing information. Development of STO is expected to take at least 2 years.
does this mean we will have to wait at least 2 years to play it?

i want it now

I'm hoping it's 2 years from whenever they started, not now. So hopefully that's 1 to 1.5 years and maybe a bit earlier for beta testing if you can get on it.

The screenshots look quite pretty. Can someone translate the text into a couple of sentences I can understand? My attention span only got me as far as the pictures.

The gist of it is this:
- Game play will be a mixture of walking around and flying ships.
- You wont be limited to being a part of a crew in an anonymous uniform, there will be extended universe possibilities if you want to go that way.
- You get your own ship early on.
- Later you can group with others each with own ships or together on board a single ship.
- The ships will act like upgradable mounts (I've never had a mount so don't know what that entails).
- As with every MMO, exploration will play a big part.
- Ships wont just be used to warp from one place to another, stuff will happen in space at impulse speed.

Well, it's got some potential. Sounds like they're trying to do something a little different. I'm keeping an open mind, despite my aversion to all things Star Trek.
