Dear American 5punkers...

Post by viper_2090 »

I shall soon be coming to your lovely country for a year! I have a mobile phone that I would like to bring over with me, and I'm wondering if you guys know any shops that would sell me a charger for it?

The phone is a Motorola V3

Oh, and I shall be in Florida if anybody cares :D

Don't they use a different voltage or something to us? Or is it actually as simple as just getting a plug converter?

you get adapters that you plug into the walls, which enable you to use your good old british plug.

But I would advise getting anew phone over there, It will cost you more than you could imagine to use it other there, *I know*

I'm one step ahead here.... I'm going to get my phone unblocked from 02 so that I canput a yank sim card into it, saves me having to buy a new handset over there :boogie:

I would watch the plug converter idea if i were you. An american friend brought his hair clippers over here, used it with a plug adapter, and almost dropped the thing in fright. It sounded like it was possessed by a demon.

A really angry demon.

If the voltage difference does that to clippers, i really wouldnt want to risk my mobile on it.

often cheapy adaptors won't do voltage.

shouldn't be a problem feeding less power in though

FYI: American power is 120V (AC) at 60Hz.

yep. and English is 230v 50hz.
Read the back of your phone charger. Many new (switched mode) transformers will do 100-240v 50/60hz
Therefore all you'll need is a english3pin->american2pin plug adapter. about £3 at a travel shop.

UPDATE:

The back of my charger has the following inscribed...
"INPUT 100-240V~50/60Hz"

This means it is safe with just a plug adapter yes?
