I'd suggest grabbing the doomsday engine, Lets you run doom, hexen and heretic in a nice windowed box (not from steam though)

Some of them, like Doom and Quake can be made to look quite shiney with modern clevernessness with require the original games files to function.

I know WinDoom let you play with a mouse, and GL Quake added transparent water and mirrors with a 3dfx card, but not sure if they've continued developing them.

Bought! I probably have most already, but for sheer ease-of-use thats worth £35 alone.

Duke nuke was apogee, then 3drealms I think.

I assume any games that did support network gaming still do, but grabbing replacement engines for the older ones might help

Thanks, I tried this. It does make a big difference graphically. I played a couple of levels of the original Wolfenstien on fullscreen and I nearly went blind.

These are mobile games. Excellent mobile games.

Bought it, and now disabled most of the 'retro' stuff.
Will play through QIII and QIIIA religiously though.
Will also play through DIII and the expansion.
Might revisit QII.
