Well, FarCry 1 was good. Except for the multiplayer, that sucked more ass than STALKER MP. Coincidentally FC2 seems to sit in the same marmitey area as STALKER. Annoying gameplay quirks, but open, free environment.
For me, STALKER's good bits outweighed its flaws (although the superbrokenness of Clear Sky has in no way compelled me to even look at the latest incarnation) but FC2 had the balance the other way around.

For £9.99 though for both games, it's worth it.
Farcry 1 is quite good although it goes a bit weird later on when it goes all Lost and there's mutants and such.
Farcry 2 is worth it for the flamethrower, running over zebra's with cars and the grenade launcher. My main gripe was that there was no variation in the side missions at all.

They were formulaic in design, but I always liked finding new ways of fucking stuff up.
It would have been better if the factions reacted properly and there was always some peaceful checkpoints and some angry ones and it changed as your allegiance did.

I recall enjoying the first one but was bored to within an inch of my potbellied life within an hour of starting the second. Then the Christmas buggerlers nicked it but I'm not sorry

I just didn't get over the feeling that I wasn't getting anything done at all in Far Cry 2. All the missions I did and the constant driving past check points and the inability of Ubisoft Montreal to program friendly AI just killed the desire to play it.
I think Yahtzee nailed it pretty good in his review.

's quite an entertaining game, I rather liked it, certainly worth the 3 quid.

I swept it and played about ten minutes of the first mission, the only reason I was on that long was because I kept reloading the bit were you arty strike the village.
It's a shiny brown walking simulator.
