I can see your point, and I'd agree that using something because it's your style of play isn't griefing. I don't consider chopper whores griefers, just bloody annoying. As I've said before, I define a griefer by their intent to spoil a game rather than the effect of it.

I can feel undercurrents of the COD4 thing influencing the replies of quite a few people here, which really wasn't my original intention, but wasn't unexpected. I'd rather sort that one out separately though, if it can be sorted out.

I reckon Joose is on the right lines here, not just for cod, for anything 5punk plays as a group.

We've always had little mostly unspoken rules in a lot of our more popular games, and until fairly recently griefing wasn't something 5punk did much at all, especially not on our own servers

I don't consider using a weapon (or vehicle, like chopper whores in beef) properly despite knowing other players don't like it any more selfish than expecting people to not use certain weapons/vehicles because you personally don't like them. People didn't like me destroying entire teams with a tank, but no one demanded that I didn't, either.

The point could be argued back and forth all day though, so for the sake of not turning this into an even bigger cod argument I'll not continue after this post.

Exactly why I stopped playing CoD4. Everyone cannot be satisfied but this is taking the piss now. I'm trying to improve my gaming experience just a little, since 1) I don't have the lightning reflexes some people do for this game 2) I just plain suck with most of the regular guns. Noobtube is a part of the game just like any other fucking gun and I believe I should be able to use it. I don't see noobtubing as griefing as it's a legal gameplay tactic of subtly raising your usefulness. Noobtube jumping is possibly hitting close to the border of griefing, again, it's just a combination of tactics, heck I could say jumping is as much of a tactic as camping and using a noobtube is the tactic of using a fucking weapon, just like using p90 is "using a weapon".

Bottom line, you really can't call me a selfish cock, I got fed up with all the shit orbitting CoD4 and stopped playing

I think Berk killing everyone all the time is annoying too. Can we make him not kill?

My point is that its all to do with the numbers. If one person is doing something that a load of people don't like, hes being selfish. And, yes, If one person is saying you shouldn't do something because just one person doesn't like it, then *they* are being selfish. Thats kinda the definition of "selfish"; only considering yourself and not others.

This doesn't just apply to CoD4 by the way, I was just using that as an example. To take another (less topical) example: auto-sniper in CS. Its perfectly allowable in the rules, but people in 5punk don't like it if thats all you use, so its generally accepted that you don't use it all the time, if at all. A non 5punk based example was when we used to play AvP2 at uni: the smartgun is stupid powerful and makes the game not fun to play for anyone who doesn't have a smart gun, so we didn't use it.

99% of 5punkers didn't care that everything above a scout being banned on CSS.

99% of 5punkers didn't care about the rules we had on BEEF.

This stuff has always applied on 5punk, and always will, it makes games more fun and fairer for the majority.

Don't get me wrong, I don't take stuff personally (if I would, I'd be following the example of certain other people, download some spyware from a post, get fed up and leave

), but I was one of those people you described, so I felt a little need to defend my point. I was trying to say that it's true, I'm probably either a selfish cock or quit the game

I don't mean to rehash the same stuff that's been said over and over again, but I'm going to throw down my two cents.

There's a huge difference between taking the fun away from people simply by beating them at a game, and setting out with the specific purpose of ruining the game of others. For example, I may get slightly annoyed by getting my ass kicked in CoD, but I'm not going to think anyone is out to ruin my game.

Now on the other hand, examples of people going out to ruin the game of others... sealing the exits in TEEF, "kidnapping" in BEEF, People who use aimbots blatantly in the open... that kind of shit is just immature and whenever I encounter that stuff I just move on to somewhere else.

I like to think I never grief.

The closest I ever got was when I used the planes in BEEF, but it's my role to get in a plane and WTFPWN the other team, as is their role to organise some air defence and take me out of the skies. It's how I met you lot in the first place!

Griefing to me is the causing of breakdown of gameplay, or performing an action which pisses someone else off which in no way helps your team win.

To be honest, I don't play most FPS with 5punkers because a certain few people seem a little too good to me. When I get that feeling I simply leave the server.
