perhaps i could make a bit of an effort and take the train to birmingham, since eurostar isn't that expensive if you go alone. however, i have absolutely no idea how the railroads in britain are. is it even affordable to travel from londen to brum? and how long would it take me?

about £45 and just over 2 hours, but you might be able to get a lift from london?

Well, if you buy them plenty in advance you will get them cheap. I've just had a quick look, London Euston -Birmingham New Street takes about one and a half hours and it's £39.50 for a weekend return. If it was Friday-Saturday it'd be about £15-20 but the deals for Sunday trains are a bit shit.

edit - Like Berk says, a lift from London could be got from bobbins it just relies on Eurostar timings etc.

johnson, where are you in london? I'm mildly interested and not having a long journey on my own may help...

i could also try using eurolines, they're pretty cheap, but their website is a bit broken. will look into it later.

Jebus, I just looked at prices for me, my rail card makes it a ridiculous £55. Someone appears to have sold all the advance tickets, other wise it'd be about £15.

£60 for eurostar to london back and forth. not too cheap but i'm willing to spend that much. now, all i need is certainty of transport and free time.

well if I go for it, £2.50 and 25 mins will take you from St.Pancreas to my house which will then take you to Grimmies door. (I'll try and make a decision in the next few days regarding transport via Cheeseandham taxi's)

I'm almost certainly attending and will be RO-BO riding up from London so can give lifts.

Well since buying a car I've developed an aversion to public transport, and as such am happy to drive down and back again, giving lifts to whoever wants one, and is somewhere on the route between the North East and Birmingham. Therefore Pete, consider a lift offered. I predict roughly a tank of petrol there and back which is about £45, split between however many of us are in the car.

Crazy idea, and not sure if it's viable, but if it's cheaper to fly to and from Newcastle then lifts can also be arranged from up here.

Could be cheaper. Less time too, our train systems are the envy of no other country in the world.
