Hello, my name is Dres, and I've quit X-Fire.
It's been messing w/ my Eve's, and that can't be allowed to happen. Also, the alarming way it was tracking my time, coupled w/ the fact that Mrs. Dres was aware, hath killed my desire to use it.
/me will submit to random bummings for punishment, and I will attempt 5punk sponsored retraining to post in other forums, like this one, which I'm not supposed to be aware of because 99.987% of my posts are in the Eve section.
Sorry, had to give Berk just a bit to be wound up over. From what I gather, it makes his beany spin, and what good are those dumb hats if they don't spin!
I'm here because of Friz and 5punkorp, as is Aki, Mordeth, and a couple more that haven't stood the test of time.
5PUNK RULZ!!!!!

It's a pity XFire is causing Eve-spackage, it never has for me, but then all things are relative.
Perhaps it's a bug that we can ask for a fix from them - as XFire is kind of central to the 5punk community and it's useful to know what/when people are playing.
Of course if you have domestic reasons you can't run it, or are doing something in-game where any random glitches would prove...expensive, then running it isn't a requirement.
There's great info for people in the Eve sections, as well as over the in-game chat - all given for free by people with a 5punky attitude. That, I hope, will continue - even if 5punkorp doesn't. That certainly counts as contribution in my estimation, and always welcome here.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Aki except that my computers can run newer games.
I am on xFire but the only people who ever contact me through it are Eve players.
I haven't played much Eve for a while due to exams and their aftermath but don't consider it to be dead at all.
Even though I don't contribute much outside of the Eve forums (and narf not that much there either) I do spend quite a bit of time reading the other forums and Mrs. Jin and I like to spend the last few minutes each evening before going to bed perusing the disco board coz it makes us laff.
There you go - longest post from me ever outside the Eve forums - so I'll go away now for another 10 or 12 months or so.

bomberesque wrote:The bit about X-fire is accurate. I'm not sure how many 5punkers are on xfire, mostly because I'm errrm, not. It was being used against me by bubble who worked out how to read of my gaming hours so when I did an OS reinstall a couple of months back I neglected to install it again.
You know that you can disable x-fire in games*, and even stop xfire detecting/logging certain games, right?
(
options > games > select game> disable xfire in-game. and options > games > select game> never detect)
Of course, you could easily use the latter to manipulate your gameplay stats, so you can play as much eve as you like, and only logging a few hours to keep wimmins happy
*this fixes like 90% of errors it causes, and doesn't stop you chatting in games you don't run fullscreen, like eve

I'm here cos of Eve, Buzz's here cos of Eve, drop it already cos this whole Eve argument thread every couple of months is more tedious than telling Buzz's mum you don't want any cake with your tea... and trust me... THAT'S FUCKING TEDIOUS (you know I love your mum buzz, and when I say love...)

I don't know if simply telling xfire to disable ingame stuff or even to not detect EVE at all would fix the problems some of you are having, but it might be worth a shot.

Doesn't work for me, it was the first thing I tried. It's fucked up cos I can run 2 clients without an issue, but as soon as I try to run a third it causes the most horrendous memory leak - but only since the last XFire patch. Meh, XFire doesn't make a 5punker any more than number of hours played in a particular game or post count on the forum. I know it's a useful way to get hold of people but given the alternatives (MSN/AIM/IRC etc) I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
Maybe they'll fix it soon.

Not to mention loads more of us. I'm here because Grimmie introduced me to eve.
Does this really need to be draged out any more now?

Yes, it does, because this fight is great!
I don't care about eve, and I don't really care that the eve players stick (on the main part) to their own little place. I've ventured in there a few times, and the amount of long numbers and polysyllabic skills and related stats is mind boggling, I couldn't be arsed, I'd find it boring, but each to their own. It's just that berk likes poking things with sticks.

So, what this whole thing boils down to is;
Not many 5punk eve hours on Xfire theorised as the 5punk-eve playing community dying off. Clarified at least in part as X-fire causing problems with the EVE client and some domestic situations (me and Dres) and thus not being used by many evers. Clarification that people are still playing eve (honest) and could we all please take a more active role on the boards outside of eve-lurk central.
Actually, I assumed 5punk going down yesterday was Berk reminding us of who puts most of the hard work in around here in keeping the site up (duly noted
)
I also assumed that the squirrel bum-hug would have cleared everyting up. Worth locking the thread? I'm not bothered frankly and think it's worth clearing out the cobwebs every so often.
While I may appear to generaly side with Friz, I do hope that both Berk and Friz recognise the central roles that each other play in this community alongside the other substantive contributers to 5punk (among which I do not count myself, just to be clear). It's interesting to note that Friz himself has been ragged on in the Eve forum for wanting to boot 5punkorp's "more insular" players and that this is most likely the main reason that he has stepped back from corp affairs of late. You 2 are closer than you think. No, really

Berk has no control over the 5punk website really, especially not in terms of being able to put it up or take it down. Unless something has changed... AND BERK'S ACQUIRED THE CODEZ!??
sidenote:
EVE IS faaabulous!

Berk provides us all a great service and without his technical know how my computer would be fucked many times over, which is something I want to happen to me, not my hardware and certainly not with hardware.
OP is a perfectly legit question given the extrapolation of gaming data from XFire, but the preposition has been fairly conclusively revoked.
Insinuating that some people may be more or less of a 5punker for playing one particular game exclusively, or only lurking, is a topic best left to die fast as it opens a whole can of clannish worms which we just don't need.
In this gaming equivalent of a casual kick around in the park, consider Eve players as the kids who sit by a tree playing chess.

Indeed. I very rarely lock threads because I'd rather everyone have a bit of a fight and vent their spleens than have resentments boiling away because people can't express their greivances. I'll only step in if someone is being unfairly treated or if someone starts trolling. I also agree that Berk and Friz are both rather valuable to us all and it makes my arsehole twitch every time Berk gets his Eve stick out, which I'm sure is partly why he does it (in fact he's probably admitted it to me).
