Is eve dead?
It's just, cod4 has as much MP playtime in the last 7 days as eve does (cod:60hrs, eve:56). but we've only had cod4 since friday really.
That's not taking Teef into account, which has another 131 hours (and just broke 1000 hours played total )
So, I put it to the forum, that eve is dead.
This thread is intended as a bit of a joke, anyone having a shouty tantrum about it will be mocked mercilessly for at least a month

Quite a few people have left/doing other stuff/got fed up with the direction the game was taking.
<eve>
If you notice, I stated the other week among rumours of a total loss of player data, I'd rejoin in a heartbeat.
Currently thanks to the way CCP developed it, it's fundamentially flawed in multiple systems and skewed in the favour of the longest players who are mostly all in a couple of alliances.
Adding Carriers(on the fence about them), Motherships and Titans (esp these) really put me off the game for good as it really showed a lack of foresight and naivety into the future of the universe regarding the players.

I'm still playing, though far from actively - unique in the MMO world you can set skills to learn and just bugger off until you feel like trying them out.
I appreciate this attitude isn't particularly helpful to maintaining a cohesive group of active players, but CCP don't seem to be doing themselves any favours for the casual player either by constantly trying to ingratiate themselves with the loudest shouters (read: biggest powers).
Most MMOs suffer the same thing, that the people at the top shout loudest for new stuff, while the low-to-middle range people just get bored and give up silently.
Other than trying out the ships I've been training for for around six months against bots in regular missions that have existed for ages, there's not particularly anything I'm looking forward to.

Large chunks of what should be 5punks eve community don't run Xfire for whatever reason. Those that do though (me aside) don't play much though.
I feel like I could argue this point, given that the only thing I think is broken in-game is POS. Blobing is an issue, but that's more to do with player mentality than gameplay requirements.buzzmong wrote:Currently thanks to the way CCP developed it, it's fundamentially flawed in multiple systems and skewed in the favour of the longest players who are mostly all in a couple of alliances

Further to your question berk (I think you opened a whole can of worms here, but I'll try to keep it short), if you ment the 5punkorp corporation (guild, clan, whatever) within eve, I'd probably go yes. We've got lots of related alts, friends etc, but 5punkorp it's self? Pretty much gone the way of the dodo.

Eve is certainly not dead. Players online in peak times regularly tops 30,000 (24,794 right now)
It is true that the long time players (christ, I've been in game 2 years now... :S ) are so far along that it would be difficult to tell new players "yeah, come on in you can get involved with little experience" a question I asked before I joined eve. It was true 2 years ago, I don't think it is today, which is sad. How do other MMorpgs get around this?
As for the power groups in game, the closest we were to one was being in ISS, which got squished. I still think there's plenty of fun to be had in yarring around though.
5punkorpz not dead either, but it is in a lull which may go terminal
5punkorp is currently in EternalRising, which is a minor PvP wannabe merc alliance. We have a couple of wars on atm, just random decs I think, with relatively well matched opponants. Friz and others for a long time have been trying to drag 5punkorp kicking and screaming into an active player group, but we are all just too lazy, frankly. Thus it is currently floating free. ER don't seem to expect too much of us aside from our involvement in whatever shooty shooty is currently going on so this seems good. Sadly one of the prime movers in ER quit recently to go onto bigger and I assume better things and if ER fails then I'm not sure if anyone in 5punkorp feels bothered enough to go find another alliance to join. Friz is somewhat exasperated with our lack of commitment, which I understand but don't have much sympathy with (after all, just look at us )
So, anyone can be in 5punkorp and can do as much or as little as they want, but there is currently no rudder. Friz has done a superb job over the last year+ and I for one don't hold it against him that he wants to get involved with a group that is more dynamic and self sustaining.
We also have our industrial corp, which expects more active involvement. This is going OK and we have a nice deal set up which allows us to fund our yarring.
The bit about X-fire is accurate. I'm not sure how many 5punkers are on xfire, mostly because I'm errrm, not. It was being used against me by bubble who worked out how to read of my gaming hours so when I did an OS reinstall a couple of months back I neglected to install it again. I think that most of the "purely eve" 5punkers don't have it though.
Sorry Berk, I know you *really* want to declare eve dead, but we're still going, although I do think that the game is becoming too exclusive to attract new players. This will be its downfall.

Think I disagree with that narf. Eve today is as open to newer players as it always was, otherwise we wouldn't still be seeing an increase in active accounts. Fro our POV though, it isn't that noob friendly, because we're all out living in 0.0 flying HACs, recons and command ships which isn't something your average noob can do. Empire has more content than it ever use to though, and much of it doesn't take much skilling to access with more incomming in the next patch.bomberesque wrote:I do think that the game is becoming too exclusive to attract new players. so, waht you're saying is the people who aren't really 5punkers don't use xfire.bomberesque wrote:I think that most of the "purely eve" 5punkers don't have it though.
I don't give a shit, it's just nice to rattle the cage occasionally.bomberesque wrote:Sorry Berk, I know you *really* want to declare eve dead, but we're still going, although I do think that the game is becoming too exclusive to attract new players. This will be its downfall.

Sorry Hulky, I'm with bomber on this, it really isn't new player friendly any more.Hehulk wrote:

Coupled with the fact that as MOST of 0.0 is owned by large alliances, it's difficult to get a starter corp out there without running into politics straight away. A couple of years ago you could just go yarrring out there and setup in a system or two, now it's pretty much nigh impossible. Even the NPC sectors are governed by large corps or alliances these days, and most routes to 0.0 are always camped/pirated*
*Pirates....I miss the old days where they used to ransom you, now they just kill and grab teh fat lewtz.

We have people who don't use xfire much/at all, but post on the forums who I'd consider 5punkers.
and we have loads who never look at the forums but are on xfire and play with us, I'd consider them 5punkers too.
However, someone who never/rarely posts outside of the eve 0.0 cave, is never on xfire, and never interacts with the vast majority of 5punkers.
Yeah, I can't see how anyone could consider them 5punky.

It's dead to me damn it.
To be honest I just kinda got tired of it, there's always things going on that seem to not involve or affect me in the least (though to be fair if I really wanted I'm sure I could get involved with it, but that'd probably risk compromising my no-taking-games-super-seriously beliefs).
And with games like TF2 and CoD4, there's no time for EvE stuff
