Bums.Dog Pants wrote:Aaaand fail again. As my disco board post already mentioned, BT have pulled the rug out from under me. After the results of my letter come back I'll be considering the dialup option, but things are looking bleak. I'm here all week in case anyone has a suggestion (bar moving house).
Thought about Satellite?

Definately not cheap:
http://www.satsig.net/avonline-price-list.htm
£2000 hardware purchase, £500 installation, £125 per month for...512k
There is radio-based internet, or wireless, which is what I have, but I think you need to be even nearer to town centre/exchange than you do for ADSL, as well as have line-of-sight.

I played Eve over 3G for a week. Thankfully I never had to pick up the bill* but I don't recall it being exhorbitant.
*I claimed I was in Iraq and someone was using my phone. They cut if off and I used my work phone for 6 months before phoning them up, bandying about some righteous consternation, and getting it reinstated.

Bah. Looks like 56k it's going to be until BT pull their finger out. In their defence, my case was issued to a particular advisor who has been very active in trying to get me sorted out, but she ended up nearly as frustrated as I am.
Don't know. I was planning of 5 years, but if I get chance to move before it gets sorted out it'll be shorter. With the amount of people who live here I'm shocked that the facility isn't there already, but hopefully once enough people complain it'll get sorted, and my entire squadron are moving there within the next few months. Hopefully it won't be too long...Lateralus wrote:That sucks. How long will you be in this backwards and broadbandless place?
