Yeah, I've been playing with the carryweight cut to 50+(5xStrength) and can still carry everything and make loads of caps from scavenging :|

Well most of my weight was used to lug around every gun known to man. Thank god ammo doesn't weigh anything. I'm sure the 20-some mini nukes I was lugging around would be quite heavy.

i hoarded my mini nukes too (for behemoths) but since i was at the end of the game and i didn't meet a single one (apart from the GNR one), i went searching for them. AND MURDERED THEM ALL.

I killed four, couldn't find a fifth, didn't want to resort to a walkthrough to find it. So I'm still wandering.

Ammo had weight in older fallouts, it could creep up on you too, few 9mm here, few micro fusion sell there and bam you can't fucking run any more. But it did generate better levels of money once you sorted out the best stuff to flog.

I always made money on the broken gambling machines in 1 and 2, early points into the right skills could see you hold down 1 and 4 and watch text flicker along as you gambled hundreds of times per second and your caps climbed and climbed.

I remember Yahtzee saying in one of the ZP reviews that he always hoarded his most powerful weapons just in case there was an even bigger bad dude round the corner.

That was me with mini-nukes - went through the entire game without a legitimate need to use one.

Regarding money: I tended to buy very little from traders etc, I always relied on food to heal up. Also, keep any clothes that boost your medicine skill - it increases the effects of stimpaks etc and thus decreases the number of them you have to use.

If your playing as an immoral/evil chap - STEAL FUCKING EVERYTHING! Second time round for me playing as an evil chapess, and Megaton is pretty much empty of anything that isn't tied down.

Things to hoard for fetch quests etc:

Pre-War books
Scrap Metal
Quantum Nuka Cola
Sugar Bombs (I think that's what they're called)

Another helpful tip - whenever you see a workbench somewhere, there will always be a Bottlecap Mine that you can take without it counting as theft. These can be sold for a fair bit of money (and as with mini-nukes I rarely tended to use them). As deej said, get things that are priftable but light e.g. cigarettes, pre-war money (weightless I believe) etc.

When you say pre-war books, do yoy mean the manky ones you find all over the place or the ones you get skills from?

Haha, yeah, I did that. I was down in the seventh circle of hell by the time I met Fawkes, and surprisingly I managed to hoard enough fluffy karma to hire him.

they're the blue ones in mint condition*, but you can't read them or anything.
there's a brotherhood of steel scribe in the arlington library (i think) that trades for a 100 caps each. if i remember correctly.

*oh, and they're actually called 'pre-war book'

Do you have to sell them somewhere specific? Nutter Moira in Megaton reckons they're worth 1 cap each.

Arlington Library (sort of South of the Brotherhood of Steel Citadel). There is a Scribe in there who will give you 100 caps for each book.

And what a shit library it is. She makes noises about some fucking huge structure, all 11 foot bookcases and doors too small for anyone but borrowers dotted around the place. A couple of rooms filled with crap and some mutants bumming around. A bit more effort on interior design would have been great.

Shit! I was carrying around a load of these as I guessed they would be valuable but ended up dumping them for guns :(

Well last night I completed the main quest with my first character. I deliberately didn't worry about completing loads of the game first as I just played whatever missions I happen to stumble across. For example, for some reason I never needed to go to Galaxy News Radio. I think I bypassed that mission while completing the wasteland survival guide for Miss Nutter.

My first guy was a goody-two-shoes, and although I'll probably stick with similar skills (mainly small guns, repair, sneak and lockpick), the second time through I'll be an utter bastard. :) I think it will probably lead me to quite a lot of new missions.

Schematics - the only ones I ever got were bottlecap mine and Shishkabab. I spent the whole game hoarding railway spikes and darts, and was very disappointed to not be able to use them. Are they mission rewards or do they just lie around in places? Similarly for bobbleheads, think I only had 3 by the end.

You just have to do more wandering to get stuff. Whenever you see them follow the little unfilled arrows on your compass to interesting places, kill stuff, get stuff, repeat. I had about 10 bobbleheads when I finished and I'd probably been to about half to two thirds of the locations. Also I got dart gun and rail (spike) gun from enemies at some stage but I was using explosives and energy weapons. Schematics should be easy enough to find with generous wandering.
