I like the circle one, and I don't think it would be too hard to do once marked out. The effort would be placing the circle down - coming up with the block shape of it is as simple as drawing a circle in Paint and folowing the pixels. Either way, working out the scale could be tricky.

Also, where do we put it? I've scouted out a few potential sites on the map that look fairly low and flat, but none are perfect;

Image

1. Very low - sand is the last few blocks before sea level. We'd most likely cover over or remove most of it during construction, and the sand might even make it easier to excavate for the first few levels.

2. Flatter than 1 but higher, and is also a little close to the structure on the west side of the site. Could be the top of a hill, it's hard to tell from the contours.

3. Not quite as flat as the others and rather too close to the sea for comfort, however it's the nearest likely looking site to the spawn.

4. A very large flat area, doesn't look too high by the sand around it. It's a very long way from the spawn though.

1 is spoodie's place.

Ah, that's that one out then. Map's not been updates since last night so it might be a bit out of date.

I think 2 is the place I was leveling out to build my castle on, but I dont mind if its a good place. Also what sort of scale are you thinking off? My biggest castle was prob 150/200 squares across and that took a long time to clear using respawning tools and TNT.

Four might not be too bad, we'd just need to cobble together a quick base of operations to huddle inside for the first few nights.

Plus it would give Berk something ambitiously distant to extend his minecart tracks to :)

3 is on a hill (not a bad spot though), but the pools north of 3 are shallow and wouldn't take long to fill in.

2 is big, open and flat, bit close to someone's (pnut's?) castle though.

4 is even bigger, pretty flat, but a little far away.

Ooh, another thought that's just come to me is to recreate a dungeon from a published adventure, like the Temple of Elemental Evil.

Its not really a castle more a fort to keep mobs out of the mine, but i dont mind if its a good spot, use it.

I threw a shed up at 4. (mainly because it got dark and scary)

I only want the mesa directly North East of that sand area to build a mob trap inside.

I had an explore South, past the castle next to #2. It's fairly flat, snowy tundra but may be too high above sea level. Snow doesn't come back from when its cleared does it?

I'll try get an isometric map online soon. Might be easier for scouting.

I've put an isometric map up - http://www.5punk.co.uk/mc/isomap/

It doesn't autoupdate unfortunately. You can see structures better if you switch to night mode, using the plus sign on the right.

Was this abandoned before it started?

I think so. We seem to have stalled on agreement over what we're actually doing. Did we decide it was Isengard?

I thought so and I'd be willing to get involved.

Cool, Isengard it is then. It was probably the common 5punky thing of just waiting for someone to say 'okay, lets get to it!'

I think Pnut's be hoarding stuff in his nearby castle ready for whatever project we decided, and I think it was pretty much decided the south east site looked the most likely.

So we need to decide square or circle, and how big it needs to be. Then we can start marking out the boundaries and building stuff.

This might be useful for a circular one;

Although I suspect the outer boundaries would be ten times the biggest one on there.

I think the pyramid I attempted before was 128 a side. and unfinishably massive.

Mine was 128 a side going up, and I managed to finish it (although it was hollow)
