There is no prone, only crouch. And it's a hold to crouch not a toggle. Annoying in some ways but it ruins the lives of hoppers and divers so I like it.

Pnut and myself had an immense round last night in armour, we combined upped armour and upped munitions (you can get people with different upgrades to boost the tank more) and we killed 2 bmd's and an mbt with a bradley, plus Pnut got mental repair scores.

I don't mind that, I've always done hold for crouch anyway

Surely 'crouch or not crouch, there is no prone'?

It actually occurred to me that I was (mis)quoting Dana Barrett, not Yoda, but I'd committed. "There is no Dana, only Zuul".

I was thinking about writing a medic guide but this is about all I've got (in order of importance):

Drop medipack / revive people if safe
Stay alive
Spot targets
Shoot things

I don't really know what all the guns are so I can't detail those. Expect that the light machine guns are okay, the XM8 is better once you'd unlocked it. I certainly get killed a lot by people using it.

I've tried playing as assault so I can get the ammo pack unlock, I suck at playing assault, but I got the pack.

You forgot to put revive people. The amount of times I've died in front of a medic and they've ignored me. Zapping someone not only gives you points, it gives your team back the tickets.

Back on the subject of prone, I found this, from the official Twitter:

"BFBC2 Lead Designer RT @locust9: Fyi we will not add prone based on anything. You can stop asking now"

And don't be an idiot.

I don't need to remind you of the sniper scene in full metal jacket, do I? :P

Hadn't realised it gave back the tickets, but doesn't stop me raging when I get ressed only to be gunned straight back down again.

Only been skimming through this topic, so maybe this has already been mentioned, but apparently vehicle upgrades apply to the UAV - so the one that detects nearby enemies lets you fly around automatically spotting enemies for the team, and the alternate fire upgrade for weapons (which I havent got - the progress bar for the vehicle upgrade is stuck for some reason) lets you get a machine gun on the uav.

Ooh, interesting. Makes sense I suppose, since shooting a UAV down counts as a vehicle kill (I love doing that). We've yet to do a vehicle guide, but I suspect that'll come once we've been playing longer.

On the subject of vehicles, the matchmaker put me on an empty server the other day (well, there was one sniper on it until I raped him and he quit), so I decided to play in the helimacopter. I realised the reason I'd been crashing so often previously was because my Z axis was reversed and I hadn't noticed in the excitement. Doh!

This and other comments has reminded me what I was going to write about, I'll try to expand my post soon. Unless someone beats me to it.

I love the UAV - fly high to avoid being spotted and circle around to make it harder for people to hit you. The white box is where the missile will land and it can be guided if your target moves. I estimate downtime between strikes is about 30 seconds, and two direct hits can take down a MBT.

For reference, here's the results of the experiment Mr Johnson and I did.

Objective
To establish the different damage areas on armoured vehicles in BACON, and the effects of anti-tank weapons on them.

Equipment
1 x Engineer (Myself)
1 x Assault (Mr Johnson)
1 x M136 AT4
1 x ammo pack
1 x M1A1 Abrams
1 x T-90
1 x M3 Bradley
1 x BMD-3 Bakhcha

Method
Find an empty server running conquest maps. Both players log in on the same team and find one of the required vehicles. Engineer hits the vehicle with a rocket in a specific place. Assault enters the vehicle and records the amount of hit points the vehicle has remaining. Engineer repairs vehicle, while assault rearms him. Rinse and repeat until the vehicle has been hit on all sides and on all different areas. Areas to be tested are front, side, rear, top, underside - tracks, hull, turret, turret ring.

In practice there proved to be no difference between the turret ring and the turret, and after testing both main battle tanks came to the conclusion that there was negligable difference between the vehicles on different sides. Therefore only one MBT and one IFV needed testing.

Results
  • M1A1 Abrams:
    Front
    - Track: 62
    - Hull: 67
    - Turret: 67
    - Turret ring: 67
    Side
    - Track: 41
    - Hull: 35
    - Turret: 36
    - Turret ring: 36
    Rear
    - Track: 67
    - Hull: 34
    - Turret: 37
    - Turret ring: 35
    Top
    - Front Hull: 67
    - Rear Hull: 67
    - Turret: 43
    Underside: 53

    T-90:
    Front
    - Track: 67
    - Hull: 67
    Side
    - Hull: 38
    Rear
    - Turret: 38

    M3 Bradley:
    Front
    - Track: 67
    - Hull: 67
    - Turret: 67
    Side
    - Track: 51
    - Hull: 44
    - Turret: 38
    Rear
    - Track: 58
    - Hull: 56
    - Turret: 35
    Top
    - Front Hull:67
    - Rear Hull: 60
    - Turret: 60
    Underside: 67
Conclusion
The damage model is neither complex nor realistic. Best bet all round is to aim for the turrets.

This is very interesting. It's mined directly from the game data, so should be 100% accurate assuming the author is legit. Looks right to me. Unfortunately it isn't that detailed about armour damage, so there might still be tank weak spots we've not found.

If that guide is right, those damage stats are odd. Pistols are doing more than assault rifles over the same range :/
