I know Lee, but there's lots of people on eve-o who seemingly don't know this. There's a thread an hour atm of people going waaaaa, we used up our mass resource and now we're stuck. CCP, get me outa here or I quit.

It's priceless, people are getting capitals, faction fitted ships, expensive implants, the works stuck out there

I actually liked the risk of being ganked in 0.0, really put the edge on travelling about and gave you a thrill when you ran a blockade. I just think if you're going to put areas in Empire where people get PvP flagged and groups of PvPers wait for unsuspecting victims, that's not a good thing. If I choose to venture out of Empire then I'm flagging myself for PvP whether I want to fight or not, and that's the way of the game. If you get areas of Empire that are now PvP, and not everyone knows about it, and people wait to exploit that, then it's griefing. The fact that the victims have only their own ignorance to blame is, I'm sure, no consolation to them. Still, I don't play Eve because it doesn't fit my idea of a fun MMO. Those who do play it should learn to deal with gankers and griefers or play something else. Which is exactly what I did.

Wormhole space isn't empire space. It can be access from there, but according to yesterdays RP stuff, pilots are actually banned from entering w-space by concord because of the levels of danger there.

Fair enough though about eve not matching your idea of fun, but you don't just stumble across wormholes. You have to go looking for them.

That was an exaggeration - I love aspects of Eve, it was just that I couldn't escape the PvP even when I wanted to. I can see the IC reasons for Concord not protecting W-Space, but it just seems like denial of another aspect of the game to those who don't want to do large scale PvP.

I don't consider killing people in wormholes "cheap" kills, or somehow not being decent - they know the risk when they enter, and if I run into them and don't shoot them then they'll probably just shoot me

Edit: However, the jumping in and out repeatedly just to close the wormholes I don't see the point of. They'll get trapped in there but I can't finish the fight with them if I do that, and isn't it possible that the jump that closes it is the one where I go *in*, so I trap myself as well?

Using a mechanic such as the closing of a wormhole after a certain amount of traffic to trap a player is an exploit of a feature
In general I agree wrt greifing but well .... logging off when you've been jumped by some pyrates is pretty much the defensive equivalent isn't it?

As for announcing yourself as PVP in eve, I'm with Pants on this. In Eve, if you're in a part of the game where you can get shot then you should expect to be shot. The edge that you gain in combat in eve is so fine that there's no way someone's going to give up an element of surprise if they have it. A large part of 1 on 1 combat strategy is getting your opponent to put themselves in a position where you can shoot them without getting flattened by the game mechanics (cops). 0.0 is a free-for-all.

I really miss eve at times but it sounds too group oriented these days for my playing habits. I love the group aspect but I just found I couldn't get anything done solo that was worth a shit and my play time tended to dictate that I was on alone a lot. Plus 0.0 just got so busy I really lost the sense of wilderness that I used to get running cargo or hunting through there. It's exciting to run the pipe wondering whether Chongus will be on the gate and working out a way to avoid him (or kill him with a brace of haulers; hat tip to Friz there) but it's not fun to know for sure that there are at least 4 pirate gate camps bubbled up the wazzoo between you and anything worth getting to and you'll need a small fleet of BS etc to break them.

May give it a whirl again later in the year but currently playing Fallout Tactics on my netbook thingy while building the courage to buck the credit crunch and drop the hammer on a new PC

that was too long. off for coffee

You're given plenty of warning in EVE when you jump into wormhole space, lowsec or 0.0 anyway. It pretty much says "here be pirates".
