I'd support you chaps quite happily, if I thought this were a good idea.

However; I don't. I fail to see the real benefits of having our own server; it's expensive and we would just be another server amogst a legion of other, similar servers.

We do OK on Lanarchy and, having admin'd a very popular 64 server, it is a fucking headache. Beef is popular atm, but in a couple of months fringe players might have moved on to something else, even in my limited 5punk time I still recall BF games having only Berk, Lat. GS and myself as regular players.

/end my opinion

If this does go ahead though, you can put me down as a definite (because I love you all - even berk)

I see your point and do agree to a level, however I do feel that part of the problem with the beef is that we don't have one server that properly fills our needs. - in that they're either very busy, full of cunts, running shitty map cycles, etc. etc.

There is a very cyclic nature to games on 5punk, so even if beef falls out of popularity a bit, it'll get busy again after a few weeks.

It really is a bit of a calculated risk thing, however i do know that 10+ 5punkers as admins is a very, very good thing™ as we're all cunts and mostly just want to have fun.

I'm not trying to convince you it's a good idea, it probably isn't.

I think this is a perfect time for a 5punk server as a few people have just picked it up and some seasoned players are still playing and have no plans to stop just yet, like me. For the year that I've been playing I've not seen so many players in a beef game.

That!

I do agree with fatman that it could be more hassle than it's worth in some ways, but cash-wise £30 twice a year isn't gonna hurt most of us.

The problem is our needs might not necessarily be other players needs.

Lanarchy is full because it plays the most popular maps. If, as is suggested, we do a more open map rotation, we risk losing the 'drop in and play' types.

Personally, I look at the map before I look at the server; trying to keep everyone happy is akin to pissing in the wind.

Anywhoo, this isn't the place for debate.

If it goes ahead; I am in :)

Well as it will be 'our' server if we find there isn't much traffic the maps can be changed accordingly and tailored to get more visitors, plus we can see how it goes for 6 months, there's nothing to say it can't be abandoned after 6 months if it's a complete failure

Yep, 6 months can be a long time in the world of games. Although I'm still loving beef I can forsee the likes of beef 2145 or quake wars getting my love instead once they come out later in the year. But for now I'm willing to help pay for six months of beef server time.

this is exactly why we're doing 6 months - it'll see us to the release of 2142 or ET:QW and no further. :)

My 'possible' just became even more iffy, due to being fired for internettering at work. Gmail, 5punk and a blog post brought me down. And thank fuck too, because I hated that job and I can now start looking full-time for something that pays more than £5.66 an hour!

Huzzah! My own title :)

Since this seems to be a go, count me as a definite (although I would like to retain the 'Just fucking awkward' bit).

Up to WEY, but it's not too dissimilar to the custom rank for a donation.

Sounds good to me, once everyone has paid you, give me and Dog Pants a list of the names, and we can PM people to ask them what they want as a custom rank image, rather than clog up the BF2 forum.

Also, the extra donation stuff will be greatly received Mr Berk :likesitall:
