The lockpicking game's a bit annoying with harder locks. And persuasion's just irritating.

The frame rate is still bugging me though. My setup is supposed to be well over the required but I have to run at 1024x768 to get more than 12fps for external areas, even then it rarely gets to 30fps, overclocking the GPU by 50Mhz seems to help a bit. Time to check out the tweaking guides I think.
Having fiddled around a bit, I've found that disabling the grass altogether added about 10-15 to my FPS when outside, and thats with full HDR. Before, with Bloom only and a reasonably low grass distance I was at 10-15, but I'm now up at 25-30 outside. The ground looks a little barren, but overall prettiness is much better with full HDR in my opinion, and theres enough detail in the landscapes in the forms of trees/plants/rocks etc that the loss of grass is perfectly acceptable. The grass seems to be the major burden to FPS, and since I can't afford a £200 gfx card, I'm happy without it.

Hehe, the conversions continue......

The zombies lurch and groan and everything. They also attack you with only one arm since the other appears to have fallen off at some point.

The other arm'll hopefully be crawling around on its own somewhere waiting to grab you later in the game.

They have headless zombies too - zomg!

I've got to about level 15 now. The only missions I've really done are the Mage's Guild ones - I'm now an Apprentice and can access the Arcane University. Not seen a single Oblivion gate however - then again I'm not really looking for them yet.

Most intersting mission I've done so far is 'Through a Nightmare, Darkly', in which you enter someone's nightmare and have to do a couple of logic puzzles etc. It was fun but should have been longer.

I really like the persuasion game (I rock at it), but I find the lockpicking to be incredibly difficult (spazzy hands) - that's why I just use alteration spells to open the things.

Still not taken any screenshots...

I'm just starting out with the Mages Guild missions with my new Majik Ninja character now. If you just do a couple of mission from the main quest you soon come across an oblivion gate.

I too am good at the persuasion game, but crap at lockpicking. Need to get my hands on a spell for it. I chose the Atronach (sp?) for my birthsign, but since I've not fought against anyone who threw magic at me yet I have to find potions to restore magica. I'm getting better at Alchemy too, even tho it isn't one of my major skills. I'm going to spend a while levelling it up though so I can make all the restore magica potions I want. Decent potions sell for a fair amount too, so its a skill worth working on.

Any advice or tactics for the persuasion wheel? :pie: not that i'm at the right level for my free rotation yet...

Lockpicking is a bit frustrating but I find the first time you move the tumbler up it falls quickly, the 2nd time it usually stays up a bit longer

This does seem to be true for the most part, but I think you can predict when the pin is going to stay up for a long time by the speed and smoothness of the previous fall. From experimenting I think I've got it and manage to get them to stay up most of the time. :ninja:

There was a nice shot of one in the installation routine IIRC - had bits of fingers missing and bones showing - nicely detailed.

In other news, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or looking in the wrong place, but after 10 hours play I still appear to be level 1.

You've either not slept ("rested") in a bed, or you're just not using your 7 main skills enough. 10 levels up on main skills = 1 character level IIRC. You have to rest in a bed to level up tho.

I like this little mini-game and the lockpicking one, I think I've got both sussed out now. :boogie:

I'm still getting random crashes as well but installing the beta nvidia drivers that were specifically designed for Oblivion seems to have made some improvement to the stability: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downl ... 84.25.html

The frame rate is still bugging me though. My setup is supposed to be well over the required but I have to run at 1024x768 to get more than 12fps for external areas, even then it rarely gets to 30fps, overclocking the GPU by 50Mhz seems to help a bit. Time to check out the tweaking guides I think.
oooh nasty framerates, me ticks along at 40-50fps outside in da uber settings mode. Ahh the fishy thing, what i did was to simply hold the 'A' or 'D' buttons and swim round in circles slashing and hacking away, then once id killed one i simply swam to shore before tapping 'T' and resting for an hour, Voila full health and magika. Then id quicksave and go get the next one and repeat the rest again, hack , kill rest and save till it was all done. Hope that helps here endeth thou tippage.

I hadn't rested as I was being stingy with the cash and not paying for inns as I though they were just for healing.

So I had a good kip, (although I still didn't see anything about level increase) went shopping for underwatery-breathey spells and yar! 12 dead fishies:

It was made considerably easier being able to breathe, plus not doing it in the middle of the night in the pissing rain improved visibility somewhat.

I got those too. Am I right in thinking the developers had a habit of placing joke items in the previous game(s) or am I thinking of something else?

Also Jack you should have been told about your levelling up when you woke up, perhaps it's what Lat said about not developing all your major skills. Check your stats and make sure your major skills have some barrage, or am I teaching a cursed zombie grandma to suck +2 stamina eggs?

Not at all - I have been neglecting my major skills as they're mostly magic ones, and I only just discovered I had a load of new spells apart from the fireball one. Only 8 slots, though - it's like Guild Wars all over again.

Kicking arse and then chewing bubblegum don't appear to be at the top of the list for a Kitty Battlemage. Perhaps I should have been a Dwarf* Warrior. Again.

Oh lordy. Apparently I appear to have just bought this.

This is bad because I also bought COD 2 last week and am also playing through WoW and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction.

But I digress. This game looks simply beautiful and I like the idea of stealing a horse and living a life of a millionaire playboy complete with cottage in the country and a dog to boot (literally). Plus I had Morrowind and that ran like a dirty Czech so it's good to hear that my new Uber PC will run it like a beauty (hopefully).

Out of interest, can you learn fishing or buy/steal a boat? Quite fancy sunday afternoon fishing trips, followed by killing then disrobing some females then violating their still warm corpses with my human-cat spikey tomcat cock.

T

[EDIT] BTW, don't be misled by my XFire profile, WoW time is actually closer to 528 hours. That's 22 days of my life. FULL FUCKING DAYS!

FatherJack, are you sure there's only 8 slots? I seem to have unlimited spells, as you'd expect. You can't change spell mid-spell, but you can do most things even when fighting.

Handy tip: Having trouble placing that poisoned apple just right? Want to clear up a room? Just want to play with physics? Point at an item and hold down the Z key to grab it. This is a barely mentioned function.
