Yep, they were ok going on. The only thing I've had trouble with is getting the card to work right once I've installed the ATi drivers. With the default windows ones, it works fine, but where's the point of using those.
EDIT: So, having had that one moment I've been waiting for all afternoon (something akin to a moment of clarity) I'm going to download the omega drivers and test those out

uninstall the ati drivers, rollback to older ones?
also start> run> dxdiag
and checking the hardware acceleration options
(maybe try non .net control panel ones)

I'm going to hazzard a guess ehre and assume you mean the non-ATi ones?
Rolled back to windows ones (for the moment) and working on getting windows updates so I can install those omega ones.

unhazard that guess.
ATI (up until 5.10-ish) have options driver wise.
Either Catalyst Control Center (overly bloated .net based one) or standard Control Panel using ones.
the .net versions (Catalyst Control Center) need .net (odd that) to work properly, the others don't
Note: omega drivers aren't all that special, just some registry hacks and stuff, unlikey to make much difference

OK, just installed the 5.10 control Panel drivers, and having re-booted I'm greated with a message saying that the drivers arn't installed and the control panel is going to close down. There's some really messed up stuff going on..

Also, having looked over my DirectX settings, since I apparently only have microsoft drivers installed, I have no kind of acceleration, graphicially, what so ever

God knows why, but it's started to behave as it should do now
Thanks for all the help Berk.
