I found Populous far easier to get into. Very addictive, and I played it again a few years ago and found it almost as compelling. Such a shame about Bullfrog.
Populous, I loved that one, even though it was more of erupt a fucking volcano in the middle of nowhere and you win than build a city and watch out for random hollywood monsters. There's an online version for it, Populous: Resurrection I believe, and I'm up for a challenge.
And yes, Bullfrog was an awesome company... Populous series, Dungeon Keeper series (in fact, I don't know if DK2 works online but I'd like to try it sometime), Syndicate...

Gah, it's an online version of Populous: The Beginning. I preferred the original.

Spent about 2 hours sweeping Sim City 3000 today, for future reference, then found my copy of it unexpectedly while sorting through a box of old stuff about 20 mins ago

I forget which one I had but it was ace. Especially the last level where you become god or whatever and have infinite range for your spells.
And there was that epic spell which made an arena and put all of everyone's soldiers on it before making them all run at eachother in an orgy of kicking. That was very special.

Yes, it was The Beginning.

I should dig that out.
I know it sounds hypocritical considering my previous comments about the infinite money setting on Societies but I used to love using the cheats on that level and machine-gunning the enemy with fireballs.

I was playing Sim City 3000 yesterday after I found it by accident, and this time I'm actually making an attempt to learn how to do it properly. After the first few years I'm starting to make a profit (which is generally where I got stuck last time), and apparently Suffragette City's mass transit system is the envy of SimNation. Go me!
