Fantasy settings really don't grape my squildo (yeah, I know what The Witcher is). Having played AD&D as a teenager, the game mechanics didn't particularly set my world on fire either. I got to a certain point when I started struggling to kill the endless hordes of whatever was attacking me and just thought fuck it, I'll play a shooter.

EDIT: Although KOTOR might do the trick...

Give TR a go! The only reason why its gathering dust in my playlist is because the internet shunned it for a while and nobody else i know fucking plays it... a necessity in an MMO I believe

Also for single player free-to-sweep goodness try The Witcher, the storyline is topnotch and the combat is something new and exciting. This has made me look even more toward the March release of Age of Conan as I'm hoping that the combat will be something a bit different from the norm. The adult approach has also been good in the Witcher, something else that AoC has had planned.

I played the demo on a XBox360...the combat was very console-eee. Which I'm not sure how it'll transfer to the PC or if I want it to...

In my experience console > PC works better than PC > console... In fighting games that use swordplay I have found that console methods tend to be more fun as there is no aiming other than "Face general direction, disembowel" whereas games like CoD require precision that you can only manage with a mouse.

Sweeping anything isn't an option for me - slow connection + little patience = not ever sweeping anything. I'd love a free trial for TR, because I'm reluctant to pay £30 for a game that I still have to subscribe to and I'm not sure I'll even like, but they don't appear to do one. It does look like my sort of thing though, so I'm still tempted (hence the original post).

It does attempt to break the mold and I think a few people who didn't enjoy it during beta may have a pleasant surprise, they have done a lot of balancing and made a few major changes. Also NO ELVES :D

Also £17.99 on Play/Amazon with free month, that ain't bad!

I'm tempted by it aswell but haven't bothered with it for the same reasons. Aparently subscribers can give away free 3 day trials so maybe KV could hand some out? I won't have time for it until after my last exam on the 17th though.

Free trials anyone? it isn't a small download so you might spend 2 days downloading it...

Hmm... problem is, does that mean if you take a trial you then have to pay the full £30 for an account direct from play NC or can you still use a serial from a cheaper amazon copy?

I suppose you could just create a new account with the amazon copy if they horse you to pay £30 but then you wouldnt get your free month.

Nah, you would just enter the serial from the box from Amazon.

Didn't you play it for a week in BETA? And i bet you didn't even get to lvl10. Stupid Americans.

I played the beta and reached lvl bored.

:above: It's probably like that in all MMOs, even though some of them has a more rewarding end-game as an inspiration.

To be fair it was probably partly my fault that I got bored. I got lost in some tunnels when I couldn't work out how get to the next waypoint, somewhere above me and I kept going round in circles, dropping down a hole to a lower level. Gave up. I just don't have the commitment for MMOs.

But just maybe there is one that will be out soon that will hold my attention because it's based in my favourite fictional universe, it's not Wanghammer.

 :above:

took me 20 minutes to get out of there, the lag didn't help.

I might go for the Amazon option actually. £20 for the game and a month's play is no worse than CoH or GW (as I've only played a month of GW and figure it's earned its money), and I've bought more expensive games that I've hardly played. Plus, I might be able to review it and reinforce why KV likes it. Or call him shit.

KOTOR is aces. It's so much fun to play through as Good the first time, then be a complete Evil prick when you play through it again.

how is it my fault that the faggots who make the game decided to cancel all the beta keys from gamespot, where I got mine from, without so much as an e-mail or any reason at all? hmm? that alone gives me the rage. also, the boring and uninteresting combat & quests and horrific lag were pathetic. I mean if I want quests that are just "go kill 10 animal x" I'll play Hellgate London or one of those shitty free MMOs.

Not to mention the hype machine about zero-grind being pure bullshit.

Fuck Tabula Rasa, fuck Richard Garriot, fuck MMORPGs.

BOBBINS USE THE TV MISSLE!!!!!!!!!!!! :x
