Floorware for about three days until my legit pre-order arrived. Installing it lost my stats, as I hadn't backed them up, but I didn't have many to speak of at that stage.

I, too am waiting on the PS3 to give me a reason to buy one. It's a rather good Blu-Ray player by all accounts, but that's not reason enough when I can get an HD-DVD drive for the 360 for a fraction of it's price - and I'd bet on that being the eventual winner of the format war, if dual-format players never appear.

I was an utter PS fanboy before - some of my older posts will show me expecting them to cost £600+ and still saying I would buy it anyway, but the games I want just haven't arrived.

Stupid penny-pinching from Sony with backwards compatibility and hard drive sizes - rather than the rather obvious cost-saving move of losing the blu-ray means I can only get a lesser machine now I've waited, has only deteriorated my relationship with them even more.

Chicken was getting PB init errors, mainly because it wasn't properly updated.

what errors are you getting, and what have you tried?

I got Unknown API function 131133. First I tried updating, that failed. According to http://www.pbbans.com forums, the fix to 131133 is that I uninstall TS Overlay, Vent Overlay, <otherretardedprograms> Overlay and DX Tweaker. I didn't have either of them. Since I got a new router today, I tweaked some settings and set myself to DMZ (earlier I only port-forwarded). Failed. I tried to connect my computer directly to the ADSL modem and connect like that, still got the error. I reconnected to my router and then I tried to kill almost all processes except stuff like steam and explorer. Failed. Then I killed the punkbuster process while in-game, and I got an Unknown API function 131136 error. I checked pbbans, it says that I possibly get that error if I run the game in another compatibility mode (eg. Windows 98, 256 colors, horse 640x480, etc.). I couldn't change anything here so I just went to the pub.

A Steam-based install is pretty much going to be 1.2 isn't it? I'm okay with a 1.1, but haven't patched it further.

Yeah it autoupdates...

Okay, seriously, CoD4 is the most random game I've seen ever. I just joined a server and played without a problem. It should be alright now.

Can you not just disable punkbuster on the server? I'm sure none of us is actually cunty enough to cheat. Or does it HAVE to be enabled?

Could be disabled, but I much prefer to keep it enabled, saves a lot of hassle.

I've updated the server to 1.2, hopefully it'll help.

Christ.

This thread tells me 2 things:

1)5punkers are happy to buy games, even if a free and functional floorware copy is available.
2)Twenty Six of us have Cod4 under 3 weeks after release. (694 hours played, too)

What Mong Said.

Now I have a job and can actually afford a game or two now and then, I have no problem with buying games that are decent. The more we buy the decent games, the more money the decent devs get, the more decent games appear.

QFT. Games that will keep me playing get my monies. Sometimes I'll sweep one to try it out, although this occasionally leads me to try it all the way to the end, and then decide to not buy it.
