QFT.

TF2 and CoD4 I guess. I'll probably keep my pre-order for this though.

I'm certainly still getting it and very much looking forward to it, it'll be nice to play something new, rather than a 2-year-old game. Having too many games to play is something I'm no stranger to, and have utterly no complaints about, either.

Perhaps, like BF2 it'll take a while for people to pick it up, or for their PCs to catch up and be able to run it well.

I didn't like it at first, playing the second beta, but got into it after a while. The feel just seems to be right, in a way that BF2/2142 has never achieved for me. Even on a new machine it's always felt a bit clunky and broken.

Aye, these will probably be the better 5punked games. They don't require loads of people to play and they're simpler, unlike QW.

Yeah, one thing QW will not be is simple, and like beef it looks like the servers will need a reasonable number of people to get a decent game going.

I've never played any Team Fortress games, so I'm not familiar with the format. Is it round based like CS:S, or more like TDM games?

The previous one was TDM style, I'm assuming this one will be the same.

:above: Its more of a ut style arena thing, respawns and spawn points away from the front line, charge, die, repeat stuff, with flags/secret info boxes or just straight up killing. I love this kind of thing, a lot of people don't do ctf, but I'll spend hours playing flag capture, thats why I'm looking forward to ut3, and halo 3. (zomg thats meant to be the 26th, 9 days and I may disappear for a while)

They used to be mostly CTF maps, with a few Control Point ones (you take flags from your base and capture multiple spots around the map), and also the hunted variant, which we played with CS:S a while back.

While it's CTF that I always remember, the new game mode sounds interesting. They've converted a few of the old favourites (like Well) to cp levels, where there are various control points, but instead of randomly trying to put flags on all points, two random ones are chosen by the server, the rest closed off and the teams duke it out for control.

It sounds a much better prospect to me, it gives each team a single "base" to defend/attack, rather than several, yet keeps the maps fresh by varying the contested points, and that means more learning/discovering of good/bad sniper/sentry spots. More like the early Quake2 CTF levels used to be before someone decreed that they needed to be massive.

Halo3 I'll grab, but only for SP, I suck too badly with a joypad to make it enjoyable online, plus I'm still scarred by the voices.

UT3 I know nothing of, haven't played a demo or beta, although I expect it'll be delayed again and again because of the PS3.

CoD4 is a strange one. I thought the cinematic styles of the first two in SP were great - probably worth the purchase alone - but the MP was a 5punk staple for a good few years, replete with many comedy moments. If they remember that baths, inexplicably-placed pianos and maps by Willy Wonka Aged 108 still have a place in modern combat it could be a winnar.

Time with the pad brings skill, mines maxed out on sensitivity, feels too slow otherwise. But there is 4 player co-op, now thats worth it all by itself! UT3 is delayed by the ps3 yes, and like you say, they'll undoubtedly delay it moar. CoD-wise, I think its going to be bereft of the classics, but it does look VERY pretty, I think that shineyness, plus squad based online stuff will see it through as a bf2 replacement, because I don't think caek wars will ever reach that place.

This control point thing sounds a bit like territories from halo 2, that was fun but underplayed, shifting the focus on the map every minute to a single point that had to be fought for, that made you learn the level very well, otherwise you got pwnt. This sounds less fast paced, but no doubt the map complexity will need less pace otherwise it'll be ages of running around going whuh? how? and SHIT, I'm dead AGAIN! Which tends to annoy.

CTF in Delta horse 2 is what first got me into online gaming, and I've not found anything similar since. Therefore, this excites me.

As I understood it, the control point selection stays the same until the next round, so if you don't know where to go, you can always stay where you spawn and help defend.

Be interesting to revisit now we're in a world with TeamSpeak, etc and can attack in two places at once and tell people where sentries are much more easily.

And other than looking very nice it doesn't seem to have much. Also it probably requires a far better PC than most of us have. Finally any multiplayer aspect is likely to be unimpressive.

The Original Delta horse was started me off, and CTF or Area Capture was teh win, you had to control an Area for a certain amount of time then any time accrued after was given as points. Made for great gameplay and a certain amount of tactical teamplay (one capping the others keeping him safe)

DF was the dogs bollox... FACT!
