Excellent fab.
Remember if you go in there to take *lots* of torches and as many arrows as you've got. Fucking creepers spawn everywhere.

Torches, armour of any kind, and a diamond sword if you have one

And a steel pick for any gold or diamond you may find in the walls

Something I've found useful, when you're exploring put your torches on the floor, it makes it much quicker to see at a glance where you've been

Redstone torches are a good way of seperating "I've been here" from "This is the way back to the surface" too, to avoid going in circles.

I technique I've not used but sounds reasonable: Place torches on the left wall as you explore, when you want to return keep the torches on your right, so you know you're returning the same way you came. Not sure how well this'll work if you explore various sub-tunnels. And you don't get the more efficient distribution of light that you get from placing the torches on the floor in the middle of the tunnel.

I generally carry around a couple of stacks of cobblestone stairs. Quite handy as it makes it very obvious how to get back up. Obviously it takes a bit longer to place them properly, but I find it's worth it.

I always put down cobblestone pathways when I'm exploring caverns/abandoned mines/etc. for this reason. I've gotten lost way too many times.

I always put a pair of torches next to each other showing the way back out whenever the path splits.

I think someone has ended up in the wrong mine as I've gained a load of stairs in one of mine
The 5punky one is where the flooded mountain is (should have mentioned that really, it's kind of hard to miss)

Might be me. Was that the mine you took me to the other day on your newly constructed extension?

Aye, that's the one. Cheers for the steps though

Rah! Finally found a village! It's a fuck of a long way away though, if you go to my distant mine, then keep on going in the same direction you will go past a ravine (also with a mine in it) and into the desert you will find it. Couple of days walk or so but they now have a herd of magenta sheep

Heh, just on my way back home and found another village on the way!
I might try and connect them up but I honestly have no idea how far away I am

Can we generate a map of the server?, would be easier to see where everything is in relation to each other.
I think I'm too far away for a rail connection so have just built a portal and will attempt to find a nether route over to the one near the Spawn point

^ on the map. And you're never too far away for a rail link

Ok!, There's a sign on an island just behind Dog Pants sculpture with directions, see you in 6 months

If you're over 1024 blocks away, a Nether Portal would be ideal, otherwise it's likely to be a
one-way deal.
And yes, with abandoned mines and an abundance of iron, tracks are much more viable (although gold for boosters is still a little scarce).

Can you build a railway in the Nether? Presumably you can.

Yes you can. He's no further than either of my mines is so it shouldn't take too long. Bobbins, would a sky bridge connection be accceptable? And if so can I swipe a load of the cobblestone you have to build it? ta!
